CO capture is an important process for mitigating CO emissions in the atmosphere. Recently, ionic liquids have been identified as possible systems for CO capture processes. Major drawbacks of such systems are mostly in the high cost of synthesis of such liquids and poor biodegradability.

The majority of materials used for membrane-based separation of gas mixtures are non-renewable and non-biodegradable, and the assessment of alternative bio-based polymers requires expensive and time-consuming experimental campaigns. This effort can be reduced by adopting suitable modelling approaches. In this series of works, we propose various modelling approaches to assess the CO/CH separation performance of eight different copolymers of 3-hydroxybutyrate and 3-hydroxyvalerate (PHBV) using a limited amount of experimental data for model calibration.

Cationic ultrashort lipopeptides (USLPs) are promising antimicrobial candidates to combat multidrug-resistant bacteria. Using DICAMs, a newly synthesized family of tripeptides with net charges from -2 to +1 and a fatty amine conjugated to the -terminus, we demonstrate that anionic and neutral zwitterionic USLPs can possess potent antimicrobial and membrane-disrupting activities against prevalent human pathogens such as and The strongest antimicrobials completely halt bacterial growth at low micromolar concentrations, reduce bacterial survival by several orders of magnitude, and may kill planktonic cells and biofilms. All of them comprise either an anionic or neutral zwitterionic peptide attached to a long fatty amine (16-18 carbon atoms) and show a preference for anionic lipid membranes enriched in phosphatidylglycerol (PG), which excludes electrostatic interactions as the main driving force for DICAM action.

Molecular transport is an important aspect in metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) as it affects many of their applications, such as adsorption/separation, drug delivery and catalysis. Yet probing the fundamental diffusion mechanisms in MOFs is challenging, and the interplay between the MOF's features (such as the pore structure and linker dynamics) and molecular transport remains mostly unexplored. Here, the pulsed-field gradient nuclear magnetic resonance (PFG NMR) technique is used to probe the diffusion of several probe molecules, , water, xylenes and 1,3,5-triisopropylbenzene (TIPB), within the UiO-66 MOF and its derivatives (UiO-66NH and UiO-66Br).

The composition of melanoidins in dried apple that affects quality remains unclear. The composition and structure of melanoidins in dried apple slices by hot air drying (HAAM), instant controlled pressure drop drying (DICAM), and vacuum freeze-drying (FDAM) were investigated. It showed that the melanoidins were highly heterogeneous mixtures with a light-yellow color and blue-green fluorescence, belonging to polysaccharide-type melanoidins.
