Trapped fourth ventricle is a rare entity that has most often been reported mainly in children as a late complication of lateral ventricle shunting. We report a case in a previously normal adult who developed symptoms several months after bacterial meningitis. Unique radiographic and surgical findings are discussed, and recommendations are made for the classification and treatment of fourth ventricular enlargement.

Background: Ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) often results in renal impairment. While the presence of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) is consistently observed, their specific impact on IRI is not yet defined. Sivelestat sodium, an inhibitor of neutrophil elastase which is crucial for NET formation, may offer a therapeutic approach to renal IRI, warranting further research.

High-dose radiation therapy is a widely used clinical strategy to inhibit tumor growth. However, the rapid generation of excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS) triggers the formation of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs), which capture free tumor cells in the bloodstream, promoting metastasis. In this study, we developed a hybrid nanoparticle composed of DNase I and gold (DNase I@Au) to enhance radiotherapy efficacy while mitigating metastasis by precisely eliminating NETs.

Purpose: Kuiyangling is a traditional Chinese medicine formula used for the treatment of ulcerative colitis, but the specific mechanism remains unclear. Imbalance in NETs regulation is one of the important factors contributing to the onset of ulcerative colitis (UC). The HuR/VDR signaling pathway plays a significant role in restoring the intestinal mucosal barrier in UC.

Navigating through soft and highly confined environments is crucial for bacteria moving within living organisms' tissues, yet this topic has been less explored. In our study, we experimentally harnessed the unique biconcave geometry of red blood cells (RBCs) to enable real-time visualization of swimming interacting with soft RBCs. Our findings show that RBCs adhering to a rigid surface can enclose spaces comparable to the size of bacteria, effectively entrapping them.
