Vascular graft infection is a feared complication with high mortality and morbidity rates. Complete excision with in situ repair is recommended. We report our experience with patients suffering of abdominal aortic endograft infection undergoing excision and in situ reconstruction with autologous vein. All patients who underwent excision of an abdominal aortic endograft and in situ reconstruction with autologous superficial femoral veins between April 2005 and June 2021 were retrospectively reviewed. Primary outcome measures were mortality and reinfection. Secondary outcome measure was patient morbidity. Fifteen patients (14 male; 93%) were included. Twenty percent of the index procedures (N = 3) were performed at our hospital, 80% (N = 12) were referred patients. Three aorto-enteric fistulae were seen. Staphylococci and enterococci were the most common pathogens (N = 8; 53%). In two out of six patients (33%) with an endograft with suprarenal fixation, the suprarenal fixation stent was left in situ. 30-day mortality rate was 6.6% (N = 1). Median follow-up time was 12 months (range 0-85). During follow-up, no reinfection was seen. Serious morbidity was witnessed in 2 patients (sepsis due to bowel leakage (N = 1), pneumonia (N = 2), hemodialysis (N = 1)). Eventration was the most common late morbidity observed (N = 5). Surgical treatment of vascular abdominal endograft infection by in situ reconstruction with autologous deep vein is a challenging procedure. If a multidisciplinary approach is applied and patients are centralized in experienced centers, acceptable mortality and morbidity rates can be achieved.

Transition-metal layered double hydroxides are widely utilized as electrocatalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER), undergoing dynamic transformation into active oxyhydroxides during electrochemical operation. Nonetheless, our understanding of the non-equilibrium structural changes that occur during this process remains limited. In this study, utilizing in situ energy-dispersive X-ray absorption spectroscopy and machine learning analysis, we reveal the occurrence of deprotonation and elucidate the role of incorporated iron in facilitating the transition from nickel-iron layered double hydroxide (NiFe LDH) into its active oxyhydroxide.

Revisiting the unobtrusive role of exogenous stem cells beyond neural circuits replacement in spinal cord injury repair.

Department of biochemistry and molecular biology, College of Life Sciences, Central South University, Changsha, 410078, Hunan, China.

Stem cell transplantation is a promising strategy to establish neural relays in situ for spinal cord injury (SCI) repair. Recent research has reported short-term survival of exogenous cells, irrespective of immunosuppressive drugs (ISD), results in similar function recovery, though the mechanisms remain unclear. This study aims to validate this short-term repair effect and the potential mechanisms in large animals.

Inflammation Targeting-Triggered Healing Hydrogel for In Situ Reconstruction of Colonic Mucosa.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is characterized by intestinal mucosal damage that exacerbates inflammation and promotes disease recurrence. Although hydrogel-based therapies have shown potential for mucosal repair, challenges remain due to inadequate targeting and low hydrogel density, leading to ongoing infiltration of harmful substances and delayed mucosal healing. In this study, an inflammation-targeting-triggered healing hydrogel (ITTH hydrogel) is developed, composed of polyvinyl alcohol-alginate microgels (PALMs) and a cyclodextrin polymer crosslinker (CPC).

Morphological study of the anterior dentition in Raoellidae (Mammalia, Artiodactyla), new insight on their dietary habits.

Raoellidae are small artiodactyls from the Indian subcontinent closely related to stem cetaceans. They bring crucial information to understand the early phase of the land-to-water transition in Cetacea. If they are considered to be partly aquatic, the question of their dietary habits remains partly understood due to their "transitional" morphology.

Stanford type B aortic dissection involving the left subclavian artery (LSA) poses significant clinical challenges. The Castor single-branch stent graft and in situ fenestration are commonly used techniques, but the better endovascular treatment remains debated. This study evaluates the clinical effects of the Castor single-branched stent graft versus in situ fenestration in treating Stanford type B aortic dissection involving the LSA.
