Simultaneous Determination of Vitamins A and E and Their Generated Metabolites in Human Serum by LC-MS/MS.

Biomed Chromatogr

January 2025

Beijing Harmony Health Medical Diagnostics Co., Ltd., Beijing, China.

In the context of personalized and precision medicine, simultaneous monitoring of different forms of vitamins A and E and their metabolites could help us better understand the status of vitamins A and E in the body. The aim of this study was to establish a method for simultaneous determination of 13 kinds of vitamins A and E and their metabolites in human serum. Serum samples were directly detected by LC-MS/MS after deproteinization.

In order to identify carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) in serum samples, an innovative smartphone-based, label-free electrochemical immunosensor was created without the need for additional labels or markers. This technology presents a viable method for on-site cancer diagnostics. The novel smartphone-integrated, label-free immunosensing platform was constructed by nanostructured materials that utilize the layer-by-layer (LBL) assembly technique, allowing for meticulous control over the interface.

Towards Point-of-Care Single Biomolecule Detection Using Next Generation Portable Nanoplasmonic Biosensors: A Review.

Biosensors (Basel)

December 2024

Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering, University of Waterloo, 200 University Ave. West, Waterloo, ON N2L 3G1, Canada.

Over the past few years, nanoplasmonic biosensors have gained widespread interest for early diagnosis of diseases thanks to their simple design, low detection limit down to the biomolecule level, high sensitivity to even small molecules, cost-effectiveness, and potential for miniaturization, to name but a few benefits. These intrinsic natures of the technology make it the perfect solution for compact and portable designs that combine sampling, analysis, and measurement into a miniaturized chip. This review summarizes applications, theoretical modeling, and research on portable nanoplasmonic biosensor designs.

Article Synopsis
  • The aim of the study was to create a reproducible animal model of tricuspid regurgitation (TR) using a self-expanding nickel-titanium stent.
  • The experiment involved 10 pigs, 7 in the experimental group undergoing TR induction through stent implantation, while 3 served as controls without the stent.
  • Results showed significant changes in cardiac structure and function in the experimental group, indicating successful model establishment with no fatalities, making this approach effective for further research on right ventricular issues.

[Progress in applications of ambient ionization mass spectrometry for lipids identification].

Se Pu

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Radiopharmaceuticals, Ministry of Education, College of Chemistry, Beijing Normal University, Beijing 100875, China.

Lipids are indispensable components of living organisms and play pivotal roles in cell-membrane fluidity, energy provision, and neurotransmitter transmission and transport. Lipids can act as potential biomarkers of diseases given their abilities to indicate cell-growth status. For example, the lipid-metabolism processes of cancer cells are distinct from those of normal cells owing to their rapid proliferation and adaptation to ever-changing biological environments.
