Background/aims: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the deadliest cancers worldwide, mostly arising from adenomatous polyps. Mounting evidence has demonstrated that changes in the gut microbiome play key roles in CRC progression, while quite few studies focused on the altered microbiota architecture of advanced adenoma (AA), a crucial precancerous stage of CRC. Thus, we aimed to investigate the microbial profiles of AA patients.

Observation of Ferroelectricity in Carbapenem Intermediates Enables Reactive Oxygen Species Generation by Ultrasound.

J Am Chem Soc

November 2024

Jiangsu Key Laboratory for Biomaterials and Devices, State Key Laboratory of Digital Medical Engineering, School of Biological Science and Medical Engineering, Southeast University, Nanjing 211189, People's Republic of China.

Organic ferroelectrics show great applications in the fields of biomedicine, including disease treatment, biosensors, and tissue engineering. Organosilicon pharmaceutical intermediates generally include chiral centers and have satisfying biosafety, biocompatibility, or even biodegradability, which provide versatile platforms for the design of ferroelectricity. However, their academic values in ferroelectricity have long been long overlooked.

Acrylamide (AA) a widely used industrial chemical is also formed during food processing by the Maillard reaction, which makes its exposure to humans almost unavoidable. In this study, we used as a model organism to investigate AA toxicity (10 or 20 mM concentration) in eukaryotes. In , AA delays cell growth causes oxidative stress by enhancement of ROS production and triggers excitement of the antioxidant defence system resulting in the division arrest.

Sensitive acid phosphatase assay based on light-activated specific oxidase mimic activity.

Talanta

April 2023

Key Laboratory of Synthetic and Natural Functional Molecule Chemistry of the Ministry of Education, College of Chemistry & Materials Science, Northwest University, Xi'an, 710069, China. Electronic address:

Acid phosphatase (ACP) is a key marker in the diagnosis of many diseases. However, exploiting a simple and sensitive sensor for the real-time quantitative analysis of ACP is still challenging. Herein, we attempted to develop a sensitive colorimetric sensing strategy for the detection of ACP based on light-activated oxidase mimic property of carbon dots (CDs).

Transcriptional silencing of 35S rDNA loci inherited from one parental species is occurring relatively frequently in allopolyploids. However, molecular mechanisms by which it is selected for transcriptional silencing remain unclear. We applied NGS, silver staining and bisulfite sequencing to study the structure, expression and methylation landscape of 35S rDNA in two allopolyploids of common origin, allotetraploid (2 = 4 = 32, genome composition BBDD) and allohexaploid (2 = 6 = 48, AABBDD), and their genome donors, (2 = 16, AA), (2 = 16, BB) and (2 = 16, DD).
