Small ruminants farming plays an important role in the livelihood of a large part of the population. Herein we aimed to analyze the effects of single nucleotide polymorphisms in gene on the growth-related traits of Hu sheep and Dorper sheep. The body weight and body type of 1254 sheep were measured at 80, 100, 120, 140, 160 and 180d, and 37620 phenotypic data were collected. RT-qPCR analysis was performed to test gene expressed in different tissues of sheep, with the highest expression level in spleen, followed by kidney. In the present study, the gene sequencing revealed one polymorphism located on Chr1 (Oar_rambouillet_v1.0), termed as chr1:32832382 G > A, and were significantly associated with growth traits of sheep ( 0.05). The body weight, body length, chest circumference, and cannon circumference of individuals with AA genotype were significantly higher than those with the GG and GA genotypes ( < 0.05). Our findings reveal that gene could be used as a marker-assisted selection to improve the growth-related traits of sheep.

Endophytes are bacteria that inhabit host plants for most of their life cycle without causing harm. In the study, 15 endophytic bacteria were isolated from 30 forage Sorghum plants and assessed for various plant growth-promoting (PGP) traits, such as phosphate solubilization, 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid (ACC) deaminase activity, ammonia production, siderophore production, gibberellic acid production, Indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) production, and zinc solubilization. One isolate, JJG_Zn, demonstrated multiple PGP activities and was identified as Enterobacter sp.

Genomic selection using white clover multi-year-multi-site data showed predicted genetic gains through integrating among-half-sibling-family phenotypic selection and within-family genomic selection were up to 89% greater than half-sibling-family phenotypic selection alone. Genomic selection, an effective breeding tool used widely in plants and animals for improving low-heritability traits, has only recently been applied to forages. We explored the feasibility of implementing genomic selection in white clover (Trifolium repens L.

QTL mapping of two RIL populations in multiple environments revealed a consistent QTL for bristle length, and combined with RNA-seq, a potential candidate gene influencing bristle length was identified. Foxtail millet bristles play a vital role in increasing yields and preventing bird damage. However, there is currently limited research on the molecular regulatory mechanisms underlying foxtail millet bristle formation, which constrains the genetic improvement and breeding of new foxtail millet varieties.

Potato (Solanum tuberosum) is the third-most important food crop in the world. Although the potato genome has been fully sequenced, functional genomics research of potato lags behind that of other major food crops, largely due to the lack of a model experimental potato line. Here, we present a diploid potato line, 'Jan,' which possesses all essential characteristics for facile functional genomics studies.
