A formula is presented for the generation of chiral m-fold multiply twinned two-dimensional point sets of even twin modulus m > 6 from an integer inclination sequence; in particular, it is discussed for the first three non-degenerate cases m = 8, 10, 12, which share a connection to the aperiodic crystallography of axial quasicrystals exhibiting octagonal, decagonal and dodecagonal long-range orientational order and symmetry.

Spin-polarized edge states in two-dimensional materials hold promise for spintronics and quantum computing applications. Constructing stable edge states by tailoring two-dimensional semiconductor materials with bulk-boundary correspondence is a feasible approach. Recently layered NiI is suggested as a two-dimensional type-II multiferroic semiconductor with intrinsic spiral spin ordering and chirality-induced electric polarization.

Centrosymmetric bulk magnets made of layered Gd intermetallics had been discovered recently to exhibit helical spin spirals with a wavelength of ≈2 nm that transform into skyrmion lattices at certain magnetic fields. Here we report on the observation of a spin spiral state at the Gd(0001) surface. Spin-polarized scanning tunneling microscopy images show striped regions with a periodicity of about 2 nm.

A novel spirochiral compound S-SPINOL-Y1 (S-6,6'-bis (thiophen-2-yl)-2,2', 3,3'-tetrahydro-1,1'-spirobis[indinee]-7,7'-diol) was synthesized via a Suzuki reaction and self-assembled into nanospheres in ethanol solution. Nano or micron vesicles could be formed by changing the concentration of ethanol solvent. The resulting nanoprobe demonstrated rapid and effective recognition of fipronil (FIP) through the photoinduced electron transfer effect (PET mechanism), as evidenced by complete fluorescence quenching.

Chiral phases of matter, characterized by a definite handedness, abound in nature, ranging from the crystal structure of quartz to spiraling spin states in helical magnets. In 1T-TiSe_{2} a source of chirality has been proposed that stands apart from these classical examples as it arises from combined electronic charge and quantum orbital fluctuations. This may allow its chirality to be accessed and manipulated without imposing either structural or magnetic handedness.
