The aim of this study was to verify the reliability of peak running velocity obtained on the track field (V) in runners of different performance levels. 39 male endurance runners were divided into two groups: trained runners (TR; = 22; 10-km time running performance of 35.2 ± 1.7 min), and recreational runners (RR; = 17; 10-km time running performance of 51.3 ± 4.8 min). They performed three maximal incremental running tests on the official track field (400 m), with an interval of 1 week between trials to determine the reliability of V. The V showed high reliability, presenting an intraclass correlation coefficient and coefficient of variation of 0.97 and 1.28%, and 0.90 and 1.24% for TR and RR, respectively. Both TR and RR showed lowest bias and limits of agreement between test and retest (V and V). In addition, there was no statistical test-retest difference for V. In addition, the HR and RPE submaximal values were reliable for both TR and RR. Therefore, the V showed high reliability in both TR and RR. These findings reinforce that the protocol for determining V, using increments of 1 km h every 3 min is reliable regardless of the performance level of the runners.

Brief monocular deprivation during a developmental critical period, but not thereafter, alters the receptive field properties (tuning) of neurons in visual cortex, but the characteristics of neural circuitry that permit this experience-dependent plasticity are largely unknown. We performed repeated calcium imaging at neuronal resolution to track the tuning properties of populations of excitatory layer 2/3 neurons in mouse visual cortex during or after the critical period, as well as in mutant mice that sustain critical-period plasticity as adults. The instability of tuning for populations of neurons was greater in juvenile mice and adult mutant mice.

Inductively coupled plasma (ICP), a non-contact optical processing method, has been widely used in the preparation of fused quartz. However, the thermal effect during processing inevitably affects the stability of the removal rate, reduces the processing accuracy, and restricts the further development of plasma processing. This paper analyzes the critical temperature that affects the changes in plasma removal depth, establishes a heat transfer model for plasma jet processing through simulations, derives the heat conduction equation during processing, and obtains the critical radius corresponding to the critical temperature related to the processing speed.
