Bats have adapted to pathogens through diverse mechanisms, including increased resistance - rapid pathogen elimination, and tolerance - limiting tissue damage following infection. In the Egyptian fruit bat (an important model in comparative immunology) several mechanisms conferring disease tolerance were discovered, but mechanisms underpinning resistance remain poorly understood. Previous studies on other species suggested that elevated basal expression of innate immune genes may lead to increased resistance to infection.

Erdheim-Chester disease (ECD) is a rare form of non-LCH characterized by excessive accumulation of histiocytes in various tissues, leading to significant morbidity. The estimated prevalence of ECD is low, with fewer than 1000 cases reported globally, yet it presents considerable clinical challenges due to its heterogeneous manifestations, which include bone pain, cardiovascular complications, and neurological symptoms. Traditional treatment approaches, primarily involving corticosteroids and chemotherapy, have limitations, including inconsistent responses and significant side effects.

Non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the poster child of personalized medicine. With increased knowledge about biomarkers and the consequent improvement in survival rates, NSCLC has changed from being a therapeutic nihilistic disease to that characterized by therapeutic enthusiasm. The routine biomarkers tested in NSCLC are EGFR, ALK, and ROS1.

Allosteric regulation is a powerful mechanism for controlling the efficiency of enzymes. Deciphering the evolutionary mechanisms by which allosteric properties have been acquired in enzymes is of fundamental importance. We used the malate (MalDH) and lactate deydrogenases (LDHs) superfamily as model to elucidate this phenomenon.

Background: Mantle cell lymphoma is a diverse B-cell lymphoma with varying clinical behaviors. Treating relapsed or refractory mantle cell lymphoma is challenging, with Bruton's tyrosine kinase inhibitors proving effective but not curative. Post-Bruton's tyrosine kinase inhibitor failure, the prognosis remains unfavorable.
