Objective: To investigate the effect of comprehensive expectoration nursing in elderly patients with pulmonary infection and its influence on respiratory function.
Methods: Clinical data of 88 elderly patients with pulmonary infection treated in our hospital from March 2018 to May 2020 were analyzed retrospectively. During treatment, 40 patients receiving conventional nursing mode were included in the control group (CG), and 48 with comprehensive expectoration nursing were included in the observation group (OG). The number of patients with spontaneous expectoration, assisted expectoration and sputum aspiration one week after nursing, the related indices of blood oxygen and lung function before and after nursing, and the sputum excretion volume, respiratory rate and neutrophils one week after nursing, were compared between the two groups. The hospitalization time, expenses, patients' quality of life after nursing and nursing satisfaction were also compared between the two groups.
Results: Compared with the CG, the hospitalization time and expenses of patients in OG were obviously lower, while the effective rate of sputum excretion was obviously higher after nursing. The blood oxygen, lung function, sputum excretion volume, respiratory rate and neutrophil recovery in OG were obviously better than those in CG. Meanwhile, compared with the CG, the quality of life and nursing satisfaction of patients in OG were obviously higher after nursing.
Conclusion: Comprehensive expectoration nursing in elderly patients with pulmonary infection has better effect and is able to effectively improve their respiratory function, quality of life and nursing satisfaction.

Objective: To evaluate the therapeutic potential of fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) in treating severe pneumonia patients with concurrent pan-drug resistant infection.
Methods: A case report of a 95-year-old female patient with severe pneumonia, complicated by pan-resistant bacterial infections, is presented. The patient was diagnosed with severe pneumonia caused by COVID-19, along with co-infections of , , , , ESBL-producing pan-drug resistant and pan-resistant .

The absence of an accurate reference test complicates the evaluation of tuberculosis (TB) diagnostic tests among people living with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (PLWHIV). The objective of this study was to estimate (using Bayesian latent class models [BLCM]) the sensitivity (Se), specificity (Sp) and negative and positive predictive values (NPV and PPV) of sputum smear microscopy (SSM), Xpert Ultra and lipoarabinomannan antigen (LAM) tests for TB among PLWHIV in Nairobi, Kenya. This cross-sectional study enrolled a total of 190 patients aged ≥ 18 years with presumptive TB seeking treatment at the Kibra Community Health Center Comprehensive Care Centre (CCC) clinic between September 2022 and March 2023.

Persistent hiccups are rare but can serve as an early symptom of underlying conditions, including pulmonary infections and cerebrovascular disorders. This case highlights hiccups as a presenting symptom of bronchopneumonia in a hemodialysis patient and explores the effective use of chlorpromazine and Hange-koboku-to (HKT) as symptomatic therapies. Given the potential association of hiccups with neurological conditions, this case underscores the need for comprehensive diagnostic evaluation.
