Background: Numerous studies have demonstrated the significance of trimethylamine-N-oxide (TMAO) in the progression of atrial fibrillation (AF). However, the association between TMAO and AF recurrence (RAF) post-catheter ablation is not yet fully understood. This study aims to elucidate the predictive capability of pre-procedural TMAO levels in determining RAF following catheter ablation (CA).

Multimodal MRI Analysis of Microstructural and Functional Connectivity Brain Changes Following Systematic Audio-Visual Training in a Virtual Environment.

Neuroimage

December 2024

Institute of Population Health, University of Liverpool, United Kingdom; Hanse Wissenschaftskolleg, Delmenhorst, Germany. Electronic address:

Recent work has shown rapid microstructural brain changes in response to learning new tasks. These cognitive tasks tend to draw on multiple brain regions connected by white matter (WM) tracts. Therefore, behavioural performance change is likely to be the result of microstructural, functional activation, and connectivity changes in extended neural networks.

Mobile application development to improve the active search for functional impairment and persistent symptoms in individuals post-COVID-19.

Semergen

December 2024

Departamento de Educação Integrada em Saúde, Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, Vitória, ES, Brazil. Electronic address:

Objectives: This study aimed to develop a mobile application (App) to be used by primary care teams in the active search for functional impairment, long-term symptoms, and disabilities in individuals who have recovered from COVID-19, contributing to early treatment and referrals for multidisciplinary care and rehabilitation. This experimental study used the minimum viable product (MVP) methodology to develop an App named ReabilitaCOVID.

Methods: This methodology involves ideation, content creation, prototype creation, usability tests, and adjustments based on feedback.

Background: Despite global rotavirus vaccination efforts, rotavirus remains a leading cause of childhood deaths from acute gastroenteritis. Post-vaccination studies in India, particularly in eastern India, have been limited, despite high prevalence of rotavirus in this region prior to vaccine introduction. This study was conducted to assess the impact of rotavirus vaccine on the epidemiology of rotavirus and other enteric viruses, as well as the changes in the diversity of rotavirus strains among children (≤5 years) with acute gastroenteritis.

Background: Black women have a 40% higher breast cancer (BC) mortality rate than White women and are at a higher risk of acquiring cardiovascular disease. Proton therapy (PT) can be used to mitigate cardiac radiation exposure; however, PT remains a scarce resource in the United States. We report on the cardiovascular profiles of patients undergoing PT to determine the potential benefit of PT for Black women when compared to non-Black patients.
