Hydrogen is considered to be a very efficient and clean fuel since it is a renewable and non-polluting gas with a high energy density; thus, it has drawn much attention as an alternative fuel, in order to alleviate the issue of global warming caused by the excess use of fossil fuels. In this work, a novel Cu/ZnS/COF composite photocatalyst with a core-shell structure was synthesized for photocatalytic hydrogen production via water splitting. The Cu/ZnS/COF microspheres formed by Cu/ZnS crystal aggregation were covered by a microporous thin-film COF with a porous network structure, where COF was also modified by the dual-effective redox sites of C=O and N=N. The photocatalytic hydrogen production results showed that the hydrogen production rate reached 278.4 µmol g h, which may be attributed to its special structure, which has a large number of active sites, a more negative conduction band than the reduction of H to H, and the ability to inhibit the recombination of electron-hole pairs. Finally, a possible mechanism was proposed to effectively explain the improved photocatalytic performance of the photocatalytic system. The present work provides a new concept, in order to construct a highly efficient hydrogen production catalyst and broaden the applications of ZnS-based materials.

Section II: Electrobiotechnology, Institute of Process Engineering in Life Science, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, 76131, Karlsruhe, Germany.

Background: Parageobacillus thermoglucosidasius is a facultatively anaerobic thermophile that is able to produce hydrogen (H) gas from the oxidation of carbon monoxide through the water-gas shift reaction when grown under anaerobic conditions. The water-gas shift (WGS) reaction is driven by a carbon monoxide dehydrogenase-hydrogenase enzyme complex. Previous experiments exploring hydrogenogenesis with P.

The recent emergence of bile salt hydrolase (BSH) enzyme as a therapeutic target reflects its unbound potential in mitigating hypercholesterolemia, obesity, and gastrointestinal issues. However, to bolster its industrial application, optimization of BSH assay lays the cornerstone for enhancing sensitivity, specificity, and reproducibility. The current study delved into optimizing the BSH assay parameters utilizing response surface methodology (RSM) and one-factor-at-a-time (OFAT) method for two novel, natural BSH producers, Heyndrickxia coagulans ATCC 7050 and Lactiplantibacillus plantarum ATCC 10012.

UW supplementation with AP39 improves liver viability following static cold storage.

Center for Engineering in Medicine and Surgery, Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA, USA.

Static cold storage of donor livers at 4 °C incompletely arrests metabolism, ultimately leading to decreases in ATP levels, oxidative stress, cell death, and organ failure. Hydrogen Sulfide (HS) is an endogenously produced gas, previously demonstrated to reduce oxidative stress, reduce ATP depletion, and protect from ischemia and reperfusion injury. HS is difficult to administer due to its rapid release curve, resulting in cellular death at high concentrations.
