This paper presents the results of investigation that was performed on shafts composed of Inconel 718. Tests were performed in dry and wet conditions. Cutting parameters, such as feed and depth of cut, were constant. The cutting speed was changed. The investigation was performed for various shaft shapes: cylindrical, taper 30°, taper 45°, and sphere. For that reason, the value of the angle between the machined surface and the cutting edge changed. The lowest values of the roughness parameters, and , were obtained for a larger value of the angle between the machined surface and cutting edge. The investigation showed that cutting speed, machining conditions (dry and wet machining), and the variable angle between the machined surface and the cutting edge influenced the surface roughness. Application of a higher cutting speed resulted in lower roughness values. Lower values of roughness parameters were obtained by wet machining.

Machine learning methods for fitting potential energy surfaces and molecular dynamics simulations are becoming increasingly popular due to their potentially high accuracy and savings in computational resources. However, existing application models often rely on basic architectures like artificial neural networks (ANNs) and multilayer perceptron (MLP), lagging behind cutting-edge technologies in the machine learning domain. Furthermore, the complexity of current machine learning frameworks leads to reduced interpretability and challenges for improvement.

Comparison of mechanical properties and shaping performance of ProGlider and ProTaper ultimate slider.

BMC Oral Health

January 2025

Department of Conservative Dentistry, College of Dentistry, Kyung Hee University, 26-6, Kyungheedae-ro, Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul, 02453, Republic of Korea.

Background: This study aims to compare design, phase transformation behavior, and torsional resistance of the ProGlider (PG) and ProTaper ultimate slider (PUS) and to compare the performance of two files in the glide-path preparation of a double-curved artificial canal.

Methods: Scanning electron microscopy, micro-computed tomography, and differential scanning calorimetry were used to characterize the samples. A torsional resistance test was performed to obtain ultimate strength and distortion angle.

Advancing Alzheimer's Disease Modelling by Developing a Refined Biomimetic Brain Microenvironment for Facilitating High-Throughput Screening of Pharmacological Treatment Strategies.

Int J Mol Sci

December 2024

Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Medicine, Level 17 Preclinical Building, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Jalan Yaacob Latif, Bandar Tun Razak, Cheras, Kuala Lumpur 56000, Malaysia.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) poses a significant worldwide health challenge, requiring novel approaches for improved models and treatment development. This comprehensive review emphasises the systematic development and improvement of a biomimetic brain environment to address the shortcomings of existing AD models and enhance the efficiency of screening potential drug treatments. We identify drawbacks in traditional models and emphasise the necessity for more physiologically accurate systems through an in-depth analysis of current literature.

Influence of Machining Parameters on the Surface Roughness and Tool Wear During Slot Milling of a Polyurethane Block.

Materials (Basel)

January 2025

Institute of Machine Tools and Production Engineering, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Lodz University of Technology, Stefanowskiego 1/15, 90-537 Lodz, Poland.

The aim of the work was to investigate the influence of the machining parameters on the surface roughness and tool wear during slot milling of a polyurethane block (PUB). In the experiment, the influence of the cutting speed, the feed per tooth and the depth of cut on the roughness and of the milling slot surface and wear of the end mill was analyzed. A three-axis CNC milling machine Emco Concept Mill 55 was used to perform the study.

A Method for Determining the Minimum Thickness of the Cut Layer in Precision Milling.

Materials (Basel)

January 2025

Department of Machine Design and Manufacturing Engineering, Kielce University of Technology, al. Tysiaclecia Panstwa Polskiego 7, 25-314 Kielce, Poland.

The minimum cutting thickness is a key value in machining processes, as below this value the material will only undergo elastic and plastic deformation without chip removal. Existing measurement methods require time-consuming preparation and complicated procedures. This work focuses on the development of a new, simplified method for determining the minimum cutting thickness (h) using a contact profilometer that can be used in industry.
