Unlabelled: Aim Investigate whether inheritance of improved skeletal muscle mitochondrial function and its association with glycemic control are multigenerational benefits of exercise.
Main Methods: Male Swiss mice were subjected to 8 weeks of endurance training and mated with untrained females.
Key Findings: Trained fathers displayed typical endurance training-induced adaptations. Remarkably, offspring from trained fathers also exhibited higher endurance performance, mitochondrial oxygen consumption, glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity. However, PGC-1α expression was not increased in the offspring. In the offspring, the expression of the co-repressor NCoR1 was reduced, increasing activation of PGC-1α target genes. These effects correlated with higher DNA methylation at the NCoR1 promoter in both, the sperm of trained fathers and in the skeletal muscle of their offspring.
Significance: Higher skeletal muscle mitochondrial function is inherited by epigenetic de-activation of a key PGC-1α co-repressor.

Capsaicin, a polyphenol, is known to regulate energy expenditure and thermogenesis in adipocytes and muscles. However, its role in modulating uncoupling proteins (UCPs) and adenosine triphosphate (ATP)-dependent thermogenesis in muscles remains unclear. This study investigated the mechanisms underlying the role of capsaicin in modulating the UCP- and ATP-dependent thermogenesis in C2C12 myoblasts, as well as the gastrocnemius (GM) and soleus muscles (SM) of mice.

The tongue facilitates vital activities such as swallowing. Swallowing difficulties (dysphagia) are common in the elderly and in many adult-onset neuromuscular diseases. In oculopharyngeal muscular dystrophy (OPMD), dysphagia is often the first symptom.

Background: Preeclampsia is a major challenge for obstetricians due to its severe impacts on maternal and fetal health. Lysine lactylation (Kla) derived from lactate is a novel type of post-translational modification which has been confirmed to affect the malignant progression of diseases as an epigenetic modifier. However, the systemic lactylome profiling of preeclampsia is still unclear.

Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS), the most common pediatric soft tissue sarcoma, arises in skeletal muscle and remains in an undifferentiated state due to transcriptional and post-transcriptional regulators. Among its subtypes, fusion-negative RMS (FN-RMS) accounts for the majority of diagnoses in the pediatric population. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are non-coding RNAs that modulate cell identity via post-transcriptional regulation of messenger RNAs (mRNAs).

The continuous monitoring of oxygen saturation (SpO) and respiratory rates (RRs) are major clinical issues in many cardio-respiratory diseases and have been of tremendous importance during the COVID-19 pandemic. The early detection of hypoxemia was crucial since it precedes significant complications, and SpO follow-up allowed early hospital discharge in patients needing oxygen therapy. Nevertheless, fingertip devices showed some practical limitations.
