The IrC and PtC anions generated by laser vaporization were identified and characterized by gas-phase photoelectron spectroscopy and quantum-chemical calculations. The straight-chain structures with an MCCC (M = metal; C = carbon) connectivity are found for the isoelectronic IrC, PtC, and AuC clusters. Further elaborate analyses manifest the strikingly structural and bonding similarities between MC clusters and OC revealed. This finding has broadened the notion of autogenic isolobality to the gas-phase clusters that contain Ir, Pt, Au, and C centers.

Objective: Therapeutic interventions for epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) have increased greatly over the last decade but improvements outside of biomarker selected therapies have been limited. There remains a pressing need for more effective treatment options that can prolong survival and enhance the quality of life of patients with EOC. In contrast to the significant benefits of immunotherapy with immune checkpoint inhibitors (CPI) seen in many solid tumors, initial experience in EOC suggests limited efficacy of CPIs monotherapy.

Objective: There are no data, and thus no consensus, on the optimal duration of poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) inhibitor maintenance therapy for exceptional responders (here defined as progression-free for 5 years or longer) with platinum sensitive recurrent ovarian cancer. The current licence is to continue PARP inhibitors until progression or toxicity; however, international practice varies considerably. The risks of late progression and late-onset myeloid malignancies, defined as occurring beyond 5 years of PARP inhibition, are unknown.

Article Synopsis
  • Transition metal sulfide catalysts, particularly Fe-doped NiS, are gaining popularity for their low cost and high efficiency in the alkaline oxygen evolution reaction (OER).
  • The one-step hydrothermal preparation of Fe-NiS demonstrates impressive electrocatalytic performance with a current density of 10 mA cm at a low overpotential of 163 mV, outperforming traditional catalysts like Ir/C.
  • Doping with iron enhances the properties of NiS by improving the adsorption of hydroxide ions, leading to increased activity and stability for water splitting applications.

Platinum (Pt) has been widely used as cathodic electrocatalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) but unfortunately neglected as an anodic electrocatalyst for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) due to excessively strong bonding with oxygen species in water splitting electrolyzers. Herein we report that fine control over the electronic-structure and local-coordination environment of Pt-rich PtPbCu nanowires (NWs) by doping of iridium (Ir) lowers the overpotential of the OER and simultaneously suppresses the overoxidation of Pt in IrPtPbCu NWs during water electrolysis. In light of the one-dimensional morphology featured with atomically dispersed IrO species and electronically modulated Pt-sites, the IrPtPbCu NWs exhibit an enhanced OER (175 mV at 10 mA cm) and HER (25 mV at 10 mA cm) electrocatalytic performance in acidic media and yield a high turnover frequency.
