A time series study was carried out with data collected from a publicly accessible system on the Federal Government's planning and budget. The EAT-Lancet "Planetary Health Diet" (PHD) proposes dietary recommendations to address health and environmental concerns, including reducing meat consumption. However, in Brazil, where meat holds cultural significance, the feasibility of these recommendations is questionable. This study aimed to examine meat consumption across the five Brazilian regions through the lens of the PHD, considering regionalisms and social inequalities.

Food insecurity (FI) is a persistent issue in Brazil, with significant disparities existing across the country's macroregions. This study investigated the food acquisition locations and types of foods purchased at different levels of FI, utilizing data from 57,920 households in the 2017-2018 Brazilian Household Budget Survey. Food acquisition locations were grouped into supermarkets, small markets, street fairs/fruit and vegetable stores/public markets, and others.

Objective: To evaluate the heterogeneity in the consumption of fresh or minimally processed foods (FMPF) and ultra-processed foods (UPF) in the Brazilian population ≥10 years of age.

Methods: Cross-sectional study that used data from the food consumption and resident module from the 2017-2018 edition of the Family Budget Survey. Variables relating to sex, region of residence, household status and per capita family income in minimum wages were used.
