The extracts are receiving attention due to their agro-food applications. Then, the simultaneous optimization of microwave-assisted extraction of polyphenols from jackfruit leaf with growth inhibitory action against sp. was studied. The effects of power and time on total soluble polyphenols and total flavonoids contents, and antifungal activity were investigated using response surface methodology. Temperature behavior was considered also. Models showed good prediction and successfully validation. Treatment at 840 W and 2 min allowed the responses maximization (148.75 mg galic acid equivalent /g dried weight of total soluble polyphenols, 13.28 mg rutin equivalent /g dried weight of total flavonoids, and 39.9% of antifungal activity). Furthermore, high ABTS (97%) and DPPH (92%) inhibition was exhibited, as a function of the polyphenol's concentration and composition. Mainly flavonoids with potential antioxidant and antifungal properties were detected. These findings suggest the potentialities of these extracts for sp. control during tomato postharvest.

Gray mold is an important disease of crops and is widespread, harmful, difficult to control, and prone to developing fungicide resistance. Screening new fungicides is an important step in controlling this disease. Hydroxychloroquine is an anti-inflammatory and anti-malarial agent, which has shown marked inhibitory activity against many fungi in medicine.

Cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide and its treatment is hampered by the lack of specificity and side effects of current drugs. Cardiotonic steroids (CTS) interact with Na/K-ATPase (NKA) and induce antineoplastic effects, but their narrow therapeutic window is key limiting factor. The synthesis of digitoxigenin derivatives with glycosidic unit modifications is a promising approach to develop more selective and effective antitumor agents.

Selectively stopping individual parts of planned or ongoing movements is an everyday motor skill. For example, while walking in public you may stop yourself from waving at a stranger who you mistook for a friend while continuing to walk. Despite its ubiquity, our ability to selectively stop actions is limited.

Listeria monocytogenes can contaminate refrigerated ready-to-eat foods, such as cheeses. Enterocins, with a strong listericidal effect, constitute a natural alternative to control this pathogen in food. To optimize their antimicrobial action in food matrices, bacteriocins can be immobilised in edible coatings through spray drying technology which allows the large-scale production of microcapsules of bioactive molecules.

Neuroinflammation and mitochondrial dysfunction are early events in Alzheimer's disease (AD) and contribute to neurodegeneration and cognitive impairment. Evidence suggests that the inflammatory axis mediated by macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) binding to its receptor, CD74, plays an important role in many central nervous system (CNS) disorders such as AD. Our group has developed DRhQ, a novel CD74 binding construct which competitively inhibits MIF binding, blocks macrophage activation and migration into the CNS, enhances anti-inflammatory microglia cell numbers and reduces pro-inflammatory gene expression.
