Spinal astrocytoma is a rare neoplasm with discouraging prognosis, which accounts for 6-8 % of total intramedullary spinal tumors. As this is a rare entity, details of the clinical and molecular features have not been fully unraveled. We evaluated the radiologic findings, perioperative clinical presentation, histopathological features and treatment response in a single institution series of 37 consecutive cases of spinal astrocytomas (WHO grades 1 to 4).

Article Synopsis
  • CcoI, part of the CopA2 family, helps transport Cu(I) into the periplasm, primarily for the maturation of cytochrome oxidase, a critical enzyme.
  • Experimental results show that CcoI's function is ATP-dependent for Cu transport and reveals the importance of its two metal binding sites for effective copper delivery during enzyme assembly.

Among the eukaryotic cells that navigate through fully developed metazoan tissues, protozoans from the Apicomplexa phylum have evolved motile developmental stages that move much faster than the fastest crawling cells owing to a peculiar substrate-dependent type of motility, known as gliding. Best-studied models are the sporozoite and the tachyzoite polarized cells for which motility is vital to achieve their developmental programs in the metazoan hosts. The gliding machinery is shared between the two parasites and is largely characterized.

It is well accepted that Ag-induced B cell differentiation often results in the generation of exceptionally long-lived plasma cells. Much of the work supporting this viewpoint stems from studies focused on germinal center-derived plasma cells secreting high-affinity isotype-switched Abs in mice immunized with T cell-dependent Ags. In contrast, less attention has been devoted to understanding Ab responses to T cell-independent Ags and pathogens.
