The rapid proliferation of security compromised hardware in today's integrated circuit (IC) supply chain poses a global threat to the reliability of communication, computing, and control systems. While there have been significant advancements in detection and avoidance of security breaches, current top-down approaches are mostly inadequate, inefficient, often inconclusive, and resource extensive in time, energy, and cost, offering tremendous scope for innovation in this field. Here, we introduce an energy and area efficient non-von Neumann hardware platform providing comprehensive and bottom-up security solutions by exploiting inherent device-to-device variation, electrical programmability, and persistent photoconductivity demonstrated by atomically thin two-dimensional memtransistors. We realize diverse security primitives including physically unclonable function, anticounterfeit measures, intellectual property (IP) watermarking, and IC camouflaging to prevent false authentication, detect recycled and remarked ICs, protect IP theft, and stop reverse engineering of ICs.

Machine learning interatomic potentials, as a modern generation of classical force fields, take atomic environments as input and predict the corresponding atomic energies and forces. We challenge the commonly accepted assumption that the contribution of an atom can be learned from the short-range local environment of that atom. We employ density functional theory calculations to quantify the decay of the induced electron density and electrostatic potential in response to local perturbations throughout insulating, semiconducting and metallic samples of different dimensionalities.

Nanoelectromechanical systems (NEMS) incorporating atomic or molecular layer van der Waals materials can support multimode resonances and exotic nonlinear dynamics. Here we investigate nonlinear coupling of closely spaced modes in a bilayer (2L) molybdenum disulfide (MoS) nanoelectromechanical resonator. We model the response from a drumhead resonator using equations of two resonant modes with a dispersive coupling term to describe the vibration induced frequency shifts that result from the induced change in tension.

High contact resistance remains the primary obstacle that hinders further advancements of organic semiconductors (OSCs) in electronic circuits. While significant effort has been directed toward lowering the energy barrier at OSC/metal contact interfaces, approaches toward reducing another major contributor to overall contact resistance - the bulk resistance - have been limited to minimizing the thickness of OSC films. However, the out-of-plane conductivity of OSCs, a critical aspect of bulk resistance, has largely remained unaddressed.

Two-dimensional (2D) β-TeO has gained attention as a promising material for optoelectronic and power device applications, thanks to its transparency and high hole mobility. However, the mechanisms driving its -type conductivity and dopability remain elusive. In this study, we investigate the intrinsic and extrinsic point defects in monolayer and bilayer β-TeO, the latter of which has been experimentally synthesized, using the Heyd-Scuseria-Ernzerhof (HSE) + D3 hybrid functional.
