The glycogen content of human megakaryocytes was studied using a quantitative method. Smears of bone marrow from 13 individuals were stained with the modified PAS reaction with and without prior treatment with alpha-amylase. The intensity of the reaction was determined by microspectrophotometry in 50 megakaryocytes from each individual. It was found that megakaryocytes are rich in glycogen which is not only confined to the intensely PAS-positive granules and inclusion bodies, but also makes up a good part of the diffuse cytoplasmic staining. In the diffusely stained megakaryocytes, glycogen makes up 32% of the intensity of the PAS reaction, while it reaches 47% in those with granules and up to 60% in those with inclusion bodies. The total extinction of the PAS-stained megakaryocytes is not only dependent on the morphological appearances of the cells, but is also positively correlated with their size.

Primordial germ cells (PGCs) play a crucial role in transmitting genetic information to the next-generation. In chickens, genetically edited PGCs can be propagated and subsequently transplanted into recipient embryos to produce offspring with desired genetic traits. However, during early embryogenesis, the effects of external conditions on PGC migration through the vascular system to the gonads have yet to be explored, which may affect the efficiency of preparing gene-edited chickens.

Environmental pH is an important parameter that impacts the growth, reproduction, and carbohydrate metabolism of Aureobasidium spp.. This study identifies the ApGph1 gene (encoded with Glycogen Phosphatase) reflecting significant carbohydrate metabolism difference through transcriptome analysis of Aureobasidium Pullulans YQ65 cultured under different pH.

Introduction: Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a chronic condition characterized by high levels of blood glucose resulting from the inefficiency of insulin. This study aims to explore the mechanism of TGFB-induced factor homeobox 1 (TGIF1) in the glycolipid metabolism of mice with T2D.

Research Design And Methods: Mice with T2D were induced by high-fat diet and low-dose streptozotocin (STZ) injection.

Institute of Food Crops, Hainan Academy of Agricultural Sciences/Hainan Key Laboratory of Crop Genetics and Breeding, Haikou, China.

Introduction: Sweet potato is an important food, feed and industrial raw material, and its tubers are rich in starch, carotenoids and anthocyanins.

Methods: To elucidate the gene expression regulation and metabolic characteristics during the development of sweet potato tubers, transcriptomic and metabolomic analyses were performed on the tubers of three different sweet potato varieties at three developmental stages (70, 100, and 130 days (d)).

Results: RNA-seq analysis revealed that 16,303 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were divided into 12 clusters according to their expression patterns, and the pathways of each cluster were annotated.

The knowledge about the occurrence and biochemical characteristics of key digestive enzymes is crucial for an enhanced understanding of the dietary ecophysiology of the species. On the other hand, integrative studies on digestive physiology and on tissue content of glycogen, glucose, lipid and protein in groups of ecological and economic importance are currently limited. In this work, we determined the occurrence and biochemical characteristics in intestine of key digestive enzymes activities as indexes of the ability to digest different dietary substrates and of functional differentiation for digestion/absorption of nutrients along with the intestinal coefficient as index of dietary habit and digestion efficiency in adults of Odonthtestes argentinensis inhabiting Mar Chiquita Coastal Lagoon (Buenos Aires, Argentina).
