Background: Inhalers are widely used for the management of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. However, there is little knowledge about the extent to which an inhaler is used and when it is disposed of, despite the implications for an individual's health (when used beyond the recommended number of doses (overused)), and medicine wastage, healthcare costs and the environment (when discarded with remaining doses (underused)). To explore inhaler use, we assessed the number of doses remaining in pressurised metered-dose inhalers (pMDIs) returned via a Chiesi Inhaler Recycling scheme.

Background Cardiovascular diseases (CVD), including coronary artery disease, ischemic heart disease, stroke, cardiomyopathy, and atrial fibrillation and flutter, are the leading cause of mortality worldwide, resulting in significant economic and health costs. Recognizing trends and geographical differences in the global burden of CVD facilitates health authorities in particular nations to assess the disease burden and forecast future epidemiological trends. Public health authorities in each country can better understand the differences in disease data and, by learning from the experiences and practices of successful countries and considering the characteristics of their diseases, allocate health resources more rationally and formulate more targeted healthcare strategies to reduce the disease burden.

Purpose: We developed an artificial intelligence (AI) model to detect immunotherapy -related adverse events (irAEs) from clinical narratives of electronic health records (EHRs) at the patient level.

Patients And Methods: Training data, used for internal validation of the AI model, comprised 1230 clinical notes from 30 patients at The Ohio State University James Cancer Hospital-20 patients who experienced irAEs and ten who did not. 3256 clinical notes of 50 patients were utilized for external validation of the AI model.

We experimentally demonstrate a cost-effective dual-polarization quadrature phase shift keying (DP-QPSK) coherent passive optical network (PON) system that operates at 100 Gbits/s/λ. This system utilizes distributed feedback lasers (DFBs) and a carrier recovery algorithm facilitated by a bifunctional frequency-domain pilot tone (FPT). To reduce costs in coherent PON implementations, low-cost DFBs are employed as the sole light sources, replacing the more expensive external cavity lasers (ECLs) at both the optical line terminal (OLT) and the optical network units (ONUs).
