Developmental changes in prefrontal cortex (PFC) excitatory (glutamatergic, Glu) and inhibitory (gamma- aminobutryic acid, GABA) neurotransmitter balance (E:I) have been identified during human adolescence, potentially reflecting a critical period of plasticity that supports the maturation of PFC-dependent cognition. Animal models implicate increases in dopamine (DA) in regulating changes in PFC E:I during critical periods of development, however, mechanistic relationships between DA and E:I have not been studied in humans. Here, we used high field (7T) echo planar imaging (EPI) in combination with Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopic Imaging (MRSI) to assess the role of basal ganglia tissue iron-reflecting DA neurophysiology-in longitudinal trajectories of dorsolateral PFC Glu, GABA, and their relative levels (Glu:GABA) and working memory performance from adolescence to adulthood in 153 participants (ages 10-32 years old, 1-3 visits, 272 visits total).

Objective: For the pre-surgical evaluation of patients with drug-resistant focal epilepsy, stereo-electroencephalographic (SEEG) signals are routinely recorded to identify the epileptogenic zone network (EZN). This network consists of remote brain regions involved in seizure initiation. However, the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying typical SEEG patterns that occur during the transition from interictal to ictal activity in distant brain nodes of the EZN remain poorly understood.

Using delay differential equations to study mathematical models of Parkinson's disease and Huntington's disease is important to show how important it is for synchronization between basal ganglia loops to work together. We used the delay circuit RLC (resistor, inductor, capacitor) model to show how the direct pathway and the indirect pathway in the basal ganglia excite and inhibit the motor cortex, respectively. A term has been added to the mathematical model without time delay in the case of the hyperdirect pathway.

Background: Intracortical microstimulation (ICMS) is used to map neuronal circuitry in the brain and restore lost sensory function, including vision, hearing, and somatosensation. The temporal response of cortical neurons to single pulse ICMS is remarkably stereotyped and comprises short latency excitation followed by prolonged inhibition and, in some cases, rebound excitation. However, the neural origin of the different response components to ICMS are poorly understood, and the interactions between the three response components during trains of ICMS pulses remains unclear.

Human brain development is ongoing throughout childhood, with for example, myelination of nerve fibers and refinement of synaptic connections continuing until early adulthood. 1H-Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (1H-MRS) can be used to quantify the concentrations of endogenous metabolites (e.g.
