Reported herein is the synthesis, characterization, and dye removal applications of a highly solvent-selective organogel-forming amide, compound , which contains a 1,8-naphthalmide moiety, flexible -hexyl chain, and benzene ring. This compound displayed remarkable solvent selectivity, with gel formation occurring only in the presence of alkylated aromatic solvents. Detailed structural characterization of the gels, combined with notable theoretical insights, is invoked to explain the highly selective gelation properties of compound , as is a comparison to non-gel forming structural isomer , which contains the same structural elements in a different arrangement. Finally, the ability of the gel derived from compound to act as a reusable material for the efficient removal of cationic organic dyes from contaminated aqueous environments is also reported, with up to 11 repeated uses of the gel still maintaining the ability to effectively remove Rhodamine B.

In response to the problem of noise interference in the knock detection signal received by the pickup in the ceramic sheet knock non-destructive testing, a noise removal method is proposed based on the improved secretary bird optimization algorithm (ISBOA) optimized variational mode decomposition (VMD) combined with wavelet thresholding. First, the secretary bird optimization algorithm is improved by using the Newton-Raphson search rule and smooth exploitation variation strategy. Second, the ISBOA is used to select the key parameters in the VMD.

From Sunlight to Solutions: Closing the Loop on Halide Perovskites.

ACS Mater Au

Institute for Advanced Materials and Manufacturing, Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Knoxville, Tennessee 37996, United States.

Halide perovskites (HPs) are emerging as key materials in the fight against global warming with well recognized applications, such as photovoltaics, and emergent opportunities, such as photocatalysis for methane removal and environmental remediation. These current and emergent applications are enabled by a unique combination of high absorption coefficients, tunable band gaps, and long carrier diffusion lengths, making them highly efficient for solar energy conversion. To address the challenge of discovery and optimization of HPs in huge chemical and compositional spaces of possible candidates, this perspective discusses a comprehensive strategy for screening HPs through automated high-throughput and combinatorial synthesis techniques.
