Endurance athletes attribute performance not only to physiological factors, but also refer to psychological factors such as motivation. The goal of this study was to quantify the proportion of the variance in endurance performance that is explained by psychological factors in addition to the physiological factor VOmax. Twenty-five athletes of the U17 Swiss Cycling national team (7f, 18 m, 15.3 ± 0.5 years) were examined in a cross-sectional study with psychological factors and VOmax as independent variables and endurance performance in road cycling as dependent variable. Questionnaires were used to assess psychological factors (i.e. use of mental techniques, self-compassion, mental toughness, achievement motivation, and action vs. state orientation). VOmax was measured by a step incremental cycle ergometer test of exhaustion. Endurance performance was measured in a cycling mountain time trial (1,320 m long, incline of 546 meters). A multiple regression model was created by using forward selection of regression model predictors. Results showed that higher VOmax values (β = .48), being male (β = .26), and higher achievement motivation (i.e. perseverance, β = .11) were associated with a better endurance performance. A more frequent use of one particular mental technique (i.e. relaxation techniques, β = .03) was associated with a worse endurance performance. Our study shows that a physiological factor like VOmax explains endurance performance to a large extent but psychological factors account for additional variance. In particular, one aspect of achievement motivation, namely perseverance, was associated with a better endurance performance. The objectives of this case series study were to test whether an elastic back exosuit could increase a wearer's endurance when lifting heavy objects and to assess whether lifting more cancels out the exosuit's risk reduction benefits. We found that 88% of participants increased their lifting repetitions while wearing an exosuit, with endurance increases ranging from 28 to 75%. We then used these empirical data with an ergonomic assessment model based on fatigue failure principles to estimate the effects on cumulative back damage (an indicator of low back disorder risk) when an exosuit is worn and more lifts are performed.

The conductive paths (CPs) established by defects in halide perovskites (HPs) tend to be disrupted under external influences, leading to deterioration of their RRAM performances. Here we propose an effective strategy to enhance the CPs in HP RRAMs by doping Ag to partially substitute Pb in MAPbI, which facilitates the nonlocalized growth of Ag CPs and thereby improves the stability of CPs. The optimal doped device demonstrates excellent RRAM performances including high ON/OFF ratios (>10), long retention (>10 s), large endurance (>10 cycles), uniform parameters, and excellent yield.
