Hydro(solvo)thermal reactions of Cd(NO), -(pyridin-3-ylmethyl)-4-(pyridin-4-yl)-1,8-naphthalimide (NI-mbpy-34), and 5-bromobenzene-1,3-dicarboxylic acid (Br-1,3-Hbdc) afforded a luminescent coordination polymer, {[Cd(Br-1,3-bdc)(NI-mbpy-34)(HO)]∙2HO} (). Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis showed that features a two-dimensional (2-D) gridlike layer with the point symbol of (4·6), where the Cd(II) center adopts a {CdON} pentagonal bipyramidal geometry. Thermogravimetric (TG) analysis confirmed the thermal stability of up to about 340 °C, whereas XRPD patterns proved the maintenance of crystallinity and framework integrity of in CHCl, HO, CHOH, and toluene. Photoluminescence studies indicated that displayed intense blue fluorescence emissions in both solid-state and HO suspension-phase. Owing to the good fluorescent properties, could serve as an excellent turn-off fluorescence sensor for selective and sensitive Cr(VI) detection in water, with LOD = 15.15 μM for CrO and 14.91 μM for CrO, through energy competition absorption mechanism. In addition, could also sensitively detect Cr, Fe, and Al ions in aqueous medium via fluorescence-enhancement responses, with LOD = 2.81 μM for Cr, 3.82 μM for Fe, and 3.37 μM for Al, mainly through an absorbance-caused enhancement (ACE) mechanism.

We synthesized a series of polychlorinated trityl radical substituted phenylphosphines. Through UV-vis photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry, we explored the influence of the chemical modifications (oxidation/reduction, coordination, and methylation) of the phosphorus center(s) on tuning the optical and redox properties of the tris(2,4,6-trichlorophenyl)methyl (TTM) radical framework. Those compounds hold promise for applications in coordination chemistry and luminescent materials, particularly in systems where both radical and phosphine-based functionalities can be leveraged for innovative properties.

Porphyrins bearing the unique 18π electron tetrapyrrolic macrocycles exhibit interesting photophysical and photochemical properties and have been considered as promising ligands for the construction of functionalized metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). The combination of porphyrin-type ligands with lanthanide metals featured with diverse coordination environments to realize the novel functions as well as the diversity of the MOF is thus attractive but challenging. Herein, an unprecedented porphyrin-based samarium MOF (Sm-BCPP) composed of a 5,10-bis(4-carboxyphenyl)-10,20-diphenyl porphyrin (HBCPP) ligand and samarium-formed one-dimensional clusters has been constructed via a solvothermal approach, and the synthesized Sm-BCPP has excellent chemical stabilities, exhibiting red luminescence.

Intramolecular aromatic oxidative coupling of 3,6-bis(m-terphenyl-2'-yl)carbazole provided a bis(m-terphenyl)-fused carbazole, while that of 3,6-bis(m-terphenyl-2'-yl)-1,8-diphenylcarbazole afforded a bis(quaterphenyl)-fused carbazole. Borylation of the latter furnished a B,N-embedded helical nanographene binding a fluoride anion via a structural change from the three-coordinate boron to the four-coordinate boron. The anionic charge derived from the fluoride anion is stabilized over the expanded p-framework, which leads to the high binding constant (Ka) of 1 × 105 M-1.

Lanthanide (Ln)-titanium-based molecular nanoclusters (NCs) have attracted much attention due to their atomically precise total structure and promising optical behavior, while there is still minimal cognition of structure-dictated electron relaxation dynamics in such an NCs regime with unsatisfied photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY, in general below 20%). Herein, the photoexcited small polarons (i.e.
