A combination of the venturi module and the vortex cup was proposed to solve vortex instability and to enhance grip capacity. Mounting a venturi suction pad inside the vortex cup improved vacuum generation efficiency. When the vortex cup properly maintained the non-contact air gap and generated an equivalent vacuum to achieve a sealing effect around the open gap of the suction pad, the combined head improved grip capacity and stabilized the non-contact environment. Furthermore, the flow patterns around the venturi chamber and the swirl inside the vortex cup were analyzed based on the design elements of each module. In a module that integrated some of the venturi's features internally, increased air consumption of the vortex cup was required than that of the venturi. However, it supported a wide range of non-contact grips. The coupled model effectively protected the vacuum suction features of the venturi suction pad in all non-contact environments in that range.

Purpose: The aim of this study is to evaluate and compare the performance, for the administration of fluticasone propionate with a pressurized metered-dose inhaler (pMDI), of two low-tech paperboard spacers versus two commercially available valved holding chambers (VHC).
Methods: According to the Canadian standard CAN/CSA-Z264.1-02, total emitted dose (TED) and aerodynamic size distribution were measured for the pMDI in combination with 4 different spacers: a homemade paper cup spacer, the DispozABLE® paperboard spacer, the AeroChamber Plus® plastic VHC, and the Vortex® aluminium VHC.

When a sailfish circles to corral a school of flying fish in a vortex near the ocean surface, a tiny patch of arced surface waves confined to oppositely placed 70° sectors appears dispersing coherently, but why? It is modeled that, when the fish motions stop suddenly, the corralled school compacts, the tail shed propulsion vortices touch, break and radiate the pressure released from the centrifugal vortex rotation creating an acoustic monopole. The surface-wave patch is a section of the sphere of radiation. The oppositely placed curved bodies of the sailfish and the flying fish act as concave acoustic mirrors about the monopole creating a reverberating bell-shaped cloak in between which vibrates the ear bones and bladders of the flying fish disorienting them.

Protonated achiral H TPPS4 spontaneously self-arranges at acids pH and high ionic strength to build mesoscopic J-aggregates that are intrinsically chiral. According to the symmetry rule aggregation leads to a racemate that, however, can be unbalanced by chemical (chiral pollutants) or physical stimuli (as vortexing the solution). In this study, we reported a case of bilateral visual loss and metamorphopsia in a patient with PAH, who developed central serous chorioretinopathy (CSCR)-like abnormalities and optic disc atrophy.
