Polysaccharide coated nanoparticles represent a promising class of environmentally friendly latex to replace those stabilized by small toxic molecular surfactants. We report here an in situ formulation of free-surfactant core/shell nanoparticles latex consisting of dextran-based diblock amphiphilic copolymers. The synthesis of copolymers and the immediate latex formulation were performed directly in water using a photo-initiated reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer-mediated polymerization induced self-assembly strategy. A hydrophilic macromolecular chain transfer-bearing photosensitive thiocarbonylthio group (eDexCTA) was first prepared by a modification of the reducing chain end of dextran in two steps: (i) reductive amination by ethylenediamine in the presence of sodium cyanoborohydride, (ii) then introduction of CTA by amidation reaction. Latex nanoparticles were then formulated in situ by chain-extending eDexCTA using 2-hydroxypropyl methacrylate (HPMA) under 365 nm irradiation, leading to amphiphilic dextran--poly(2-hydroxypropyl methacrylate) diblock copolymers (DH). Solid concentration (SC) and the average degree of polymerization - Xn-- of PHPMA block () were varied to investigate their impact on the size and the morphology of latex nanoparticles termed here SCDH. Light scattering and transmission electron microscopy analysis revealed that SCDH form exclusively spherical nano-objects. However, the size of nano-objects, ranging from 20 nm to 240 nm, increases according to PHPMA block length.

This study aims to couple C-reactive protein (CRP) antibodies onto latex spheres of 2 different sizes to enhance the accuracy and sensitivity of CRP detection. Furthermore, it seeks to establish a robust methodological framework crucial for advancing the development of latex-enhanced immunoturbidimetric detection reagents. CRP, an acute-phase protein, rapidly elevates in response to infections or tissue damage.

ZnO nanoparticles with high safety and stability are often used as active ingredients in sunscreens to protect the skin from ultraviolet rays. However, ZnO nanoparticles are easy to agglomerate, which will significantly affect the ultraviolet absorption and bacteriostatic properties, and the reactive oxygen species induced by the photocatalytic activity may result in irreversible secondary damage to the skin. Herein, the ZnO nanoparticles are dispersed uniformly on the surface of latex particles, and these composite particles are used as shell materials to construct self-assembled colloidosomes by high-gravity technology, which can improve the application properties with synergistic enrichment of the hollow structure.

Background/objectives: Magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) have gained attention in theranostics for their ability to combine diagnostic imaging and therapeutic capabilities in a single platform, enhancing targeted treatment and monitoring. Surface coatings are essential for stabilizing MNPs, improving biocompatibility, and preventing oxidation that could compromise their functionality. Natural rubber latex (NRL) offers a promising coating alternative due to its biocompatibility and stability-enhancing properties.

Cryptococcus is a pathogenic fungus that poses a threat to human health. Conventional detection methods have limited the rapid and accurate qualitative and quantitative analysis of Cryptococcus, affecting early diagnosis and treatment. In this study, we developed a Point-of-Care Testing (POCT) platform that integrates lateral flow immunoassay (LFIA) with smartphones, enabling both rapid qualitative and quantitative detection of Cryptococcus.

Understanding the structural changes and property alterations at the nanoscale and microscopic levels is critical to clarifying the deformation behavior and mechanical properties of polymer materials. Especially, in latex films composed of polymer nanoparticles, it is widely accepted that the remaining interfaces between microparticles in the film affect their brittleness. However, detailed information on nanoscale changes of latex films during deformation remains unclear due to technical difficulties in analyzing the microstructures under mechanical stress.
