Dipicolinic acid (DPA) is an anthrax biomarker. Its serious consequences make its detection a great need. In this paper, three novel metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with different coordination modes were synthesized by a simple solvothermal method, which can be used as highly efficient fluorescence sensors for the highly selective and sensitive trace detection of DPA. MOFs 1-3 showed rapid responses to DPA (<30 s), and the limits of detection (LODs) were calculated to be 1.01 × 10 M (MOF 1), 1.17 × 10 M (MOF 2) and 2.07 × 10 M (MOF 3). DPA detection based on MOFs 1-3 in fetal bovine serum is highly reliable based on the high recovery rates (90% to 115%). Hence, the three MOF-based sensors can be used in the real-time detection of DPA.

Background: Postoperative delirium (POD) is the most common neurological adverse event among elderly patients undergoing surgery. POD is associated with an increased risk for postoperative complications, long-term cognitive decline, an increase in morbidity and mortality as well as extended hospital stays. Delirium prevention and treatment options are currently limited.

Background: This study aimed to assess the histological and radiographic effects of sodium hexametaphosphate (SHMP) as a direct pulp capping (DPC) agent in immature permanent dog premolars.

Methods: A split-mouth design was employed with three healthy 4-month-old Mongrel dogs, each having 36 premolars. The premolars were randomly assigned to either SHMP or MTA.

Navigating new threats: Prey naïveté in native mammals.

J Anim Ecol

University of Florida, Department of Wildlife Ecology and Conservation, Gainesville, Florida, USA.

Invasive predators pose a substantial threat to global biodiversity. Native prey species frequently exhibit naïveté to the cues of invasive predators, and this phenomenon may contribute to the disproportionate impact of invasive predators on prey populations. However, not all species exhibit naïveté, which has led to the generation of many hypotheses to explain patterns in prey responses.

To assess the choroidal vessels in healthy eyes using a novel three-dimensional (3D) deep learning approach. In this cross-sectional retrospective study, swept-source OCT 6 × 6 mm scans on Plex Elite 9000 device were obtained. Automated segmentation of the choroidal layer was achieved using a deep-learning ResUNet model along with a volumetric smoothing approach.
