A rapid and easily performed colorimetric method has been adapted for the detection of the Pasteurella haemolytica leucotoxin using the lysis of bovine leucocyte BL-3 cells (a bovine lymphoid cell line obtained from Dr. G. Theilen, University of California, Davis). The method involves incubating BL-3 cells in the presence of P. haemolytica culture supernatant and assessing cell survival at the end of the assay by staining remaining BL-3 cells with the dye neutral red. Solubilization of the cells with concomitant dye release allows the assay to be read by measuring optical density (540 nm) with an automated spectrophotometer. This assay can also be used for the determination of neutralizing antiserum titres.

Outer-membrane vesicles (OMVs) are extruded nanostructures shed by Gram-negative bacteria, containing periplasmic contents, and often including virulence factors with immunogenic properties. To assess their potential for use in vaccine development, we purified OMVs from the subspecies , an opportunistic necrotic infection-causing pathogen, and characterized these structures using proteomics, lipid-profiling analyses, and cytotoxicity assays. A proteomic analysis of density-gradient-purified OMVs identified 342 proteins, a large proportion of which were outer-membrane proteins (OMPs), followed by cytoplasmic proteins, based on a subcellular-localization-prediction analysis.

In this study, the microalgae were cultivated in wastewater inoculated into low-density polypropylene plastic air pillows (LDPE-PAPs) under a light stress. The cells were irradiated to different light stresses using white LED lights (WLs) as the control, and broad-spectrum lights (BLs) as a test for the period of 32 days. It was observed that the inoculum (70 × 10 mL cells) of algal cells increased almost 30 and 40 times in WL and BL, respectively, at day 32 coherent to its biomass productivity.

Osteocytes are the most abundant cell type in bone and remodel their local perilacunar matrix in response to a variety of stimuli and diseases. How the perilacunar composition and mechanical properties are affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D), and the contribution of these local changes to the decline in whole-bone functional properties that occurs with diabetes remains unclear. 12-14 week old C57/BL6 male mice were administered a series of low-dose streptozotocin injections and sacrificed at baseline (BL), 3 (D3) and 7 weeks (D7) following confirmation of diabetes, along with age-matched controls (C3, C7).

The novel binuclear η-arene-Ru(II) complexes with the general formula {[(η-cym)Ru(L)](μ-BL)}(PF), and their corresponding water soluble {[(η-cym)Ru(L)](μ-BL)}Cl, where cym = -cymene, L = 2,2'-bipyridine (bpy) and 1,10-phenanthroline (phen), BL = 4,4'-bipyridine (BL-1), 1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethane (BL-2) and 1,3-bis(4-pyridyl)propane (BL-3), were synthesized and characterized. The structure of {[(η-cym)Ru(phen)](μ-BL-1)}(PF) was determined by X-ray single crystal methods. The interaction of {[(η-cym)Ru(phen)](μ-BL-)}Cl ( = 1, 2, 3; (4), (5) and (6) correspondingly) with the DNA duplex d(5'-CGCGAATTCGCG-3') was studied by means of NMR techniques and fluorescence titrations.

Adipose stem cells (ASCs) have shown therapeutic promise for various conditions, including burn injury. While ASCs have immunomodulatory properties, concerns exist over pro-coagulant activity after intravenous (IV) administration. In the present study, we examined IV human ASC delivery in terms of coagulation, organ function, and inflammation in a 40% total body surface area (TBSA) swine burn model.
