A colon-specific drug delivery system has great potential for the oral administration of colorectal cancer. However, the uncontrollable fate of liposomes makes their effectiveness for colonic location, and intratumoral accumulation remains unsatisfactory. Here, an oral colon-specific drug delivery system (CBS-CS@Lipo/Oxp/MTZ) was constructed by covalently conjugating spores (CBS) with drugs loaded chitosan (CS)-coated liposomes, where the model chemotherapy drug oxaliplatin (Oxp) and anti-anaerobic bacteria agent metronidazole (MTZ) were loaded.

Antibiotics are fundamental in sepsis management; however, the optimal empirical treatment remains debated. Despite anaerobes rarely being the causative pathogen of sepsis, antibiotics targeting them are frequently used, which might lead to unintended consequences. Multiple studies have shown that depletion of commensal anaerobic gut microbes by anti-anaerobic antibiotics influences systemic immunity and is associated with increased mortality in patients with sepsis.

This study aimed to evaluate antibiotic susceptibility and antimicrobial resistance trends among clinically significant anaerobes in Kuwait hospitals from 2013 to 2022, comparing these findings with data from 2002 to 2012. The study prospectively collected 2,317 anaerobic isolates from various body sites across four Kuwaiti hospitals between January 2013 and December 2022. The minimum inhibitory concentrations for 11 antianaerobic antibiotics were determined using E-test methodology.
