Phage tail-like bacteriocins, or tailocins, provide a competitive advantage to producer cells by killing closely related bacteria. Morphologically similar to headless phages, their narrow target specificity is determined by receptor-binding proteins (RBPs). While RBP engineering has been used to alter the target range of a selected R2 tailocin from , the process is labor-intensive, limiting broader application.

Factors influencing sport development among women with disabilities: a case study of a visually impaired Spanish Paralympic woman.

Front Sports Act Living

January 2025

'Fundación Sanitas' Chair for Inclusive Sport Studies (CEDI), Department of Health and Human Performance, AFIPE Research Group, Faculty of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences-INEF, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Madrid, Spain.

Introduction: Women with disabilities may experience particular difficulties in starting and developing in sport, also in the Paralympic context. Although a great deal of research has been conducted with high-performance athletes, relatively few studies have focused on athletes with disabilities, especially Paralympic women using person-first approaches. Thus, the main objective of this study is to understand, through the experience and opinion of a Paralympian female athlete, how these athletes reach their full potential, identifying the elements and initiatives that can influence (whether positively or negatively) their sporting trajectory and developmental milestones.

Recent advancements in microRNAs (miRNAs) research have revealed their key roles in both normal physiological processes and pathological conditions, leading to potential applications in diagnostics and therapeutics. However, the path forward is fraught with several scientific and technical challenges. This review article briefly explores the milestones of the discovery, biogenesis, functions, and application for clinical diagnostic and therapeutic strategies of miRNAs.

Background: Estuaries are complex ecosystems linking river and marine environments, where microorganisms play a key role in maintaining ecosystem functions. In the present study, we investigated monthly 8 sites at two depth layers and over a one-year period the bacterial and eukaryotic community dynamics along the Seine macrotidal estuary (Normandy, France). To date, the taxonomy of the microbial diversity present in this anthropized estuary remains elusive and the drivers of the microbial community structure are still unknown.
