Unlabelled: In the absence of a definitive therapy during this ongoing unprecedented crisis, coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, convalescent plasma transfusion (CPT) has shown some promising results. This review summarizes the existing evidence of the efficacy of CPT in COVID-19 patients based upon scientific publications to date. We have included only the randomized controlled trials (RCTs) through an extensive screening of electronic databases up to July 31, 2021. In 19 RCTs, with a total of 16,476 COVID-19 patients we found low-quality evidence of significant reduction in mortality (odds ratio (OR) = 0.80; 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.66-0.96, I = 40%), better clinical outcome when applied <7 days (OR = 2.13, 95% CI 1.28-3.53, I = 0%), and improved viral clearance (OR = 2.6, 95% CI: 1.3-5.45, I = 74%). Meta-regression analysis found that as a covariate, intubation on admission ( = 0.007) had a significant impact. However, there was any significant reduction neither in duration for clinical improvement (MD = -0.79, 95% CI: -2.76-1.18, I = 98%), nor in total period of hospital stay (MD = 0.02, 95% CI: -0.75-0.78, I = 81%). Early application of CPT is still relevant in reducing morbidity and mortality in critically ill patients and is too early to write it off as a potential therapeutic modality for COVID-19 patients.

Introduction: Varenicline is an α4β2 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor partial agonist with the highest therapeutic efficacy of any pharmacological smoking cessation aid and a 12-month cessation rate of 26%. Genetic variation may be associated with varenicline response, but to date no genome-wide association studies of varenicline response have been published.

Methods: In this study, we investigated the genetic contribution to varenicline effectiveness using two electronic health record-derived phenotypes.

Importance: Sleep disorders and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) commonly coexist in older adults, increasing their risk of developing dementia. Long-term tai chi chuan has been proven to improve sleep quality in older adults. However, their adherence to extended training regimens can be challenging.

Author Affiliations: Department of Nursing, Kangbuk Samsung Hospital, Sungkyunkwan University School of Medicine (Dr Kim); and College of Nursing, Hanyang University (Dr Hwang), Seoul, Republic of Korea.

Background: Although the survival rate for thyroid cancer is high, a nursing intervention that enhances autonomous motivation is needed for patients with jobs to improve their long-term self-management abilities in the early postoperative period.

Objectives: This study aims to develop a mobile application (app) based on the Self-Determination Theory for patients returning to work after thyroid cancer surgery and to verify its effectiveness.

Methods: We developed an app to promote self-management and verify its effectiveness after 12 weeks in early outpatients who underwent thyroid cancer surgery through a randomized controlled trial design.

Background: Aging is associated with sustained low-grade inflammation, which has been linked to age-related diseases and mortality. Long-term exercise programs have been shown to be effective to for attenuating this process; however, subsequent detraining might negate some of these benefits. Master athletes, as a model of lifelong consistent exercise practice, have been suggested to present similar inflammatory profiles to untrained young adults.

Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of early mobilization program with nonweight-bearing braces in improving functional outcomes and clinical indicators after diabetic foot ulcer surgery.

Methods: We conducted a randomized trial involving patients with diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) who underwent surgery at a tertiary university hospital. Participants were randomized to receive either early mobilization with nonweight-bearing braces or standard rehabilitation care.
