Longitudinal trajectories of digital upper limb biomarkers for multiple sclerosis.

Eur J Neurol

January 2025

Department of Neuroscience, Central Clinical School, Monash University, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

Background: Upper limb dysfunction is a common debilitating feature of relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS). We aimed to examine the longitudinal trajectory of the iPad®-based Manual Dexterity Test (MDT) and predictors of change over time.

Methods: We prospectively enrolled RRMS patients (limited to Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS) < 4).

Purpose: Mutations affecting the CRB1 gene can result in a range of retinal phenotypes, including early onset severe retinal dystrophy/Leber congenital amaurosis (EOSRD/LCA), retinitis pigmentosa, cone-rod dystrophy (CORD), and macular dystrophy (MD). As research into treatment strategies advances towards clinical translation, there is a need to establish reliable outcome metrics. This study explores the contrast sensitivity function (CSF) across different spatial frequencies in individuals with CRB1-retinopathies using the child-friendly PopCSF test, an iPad-based "gamified" assessment.

A lack of multistep requesting among children with intellectual disability can be an indicator of complex communication and social challenges. This study aims to determine the effect of a systematic instruction (differential reinforcement, progressive time delay, and least-to-most prompting) using an iPad with the "GoTalk Now" app on the acquisition and maintenance of multistep requesting. Using a multiple-probe across-participants design, three children between the ages of nine and 10 diagnosed with intellectual disability participated in this study.

Validation of a New Test for Measuring the Contrast Sensitivity Function (Optopad-CSF) at Near Vision.

Diagnostics (Basel)

June 2024

Psychophysics and Visual Perception Group, Department of Optics, Pharmacology and Anatomy, University of Alicante, 03690 San Vicente del Raspeig, Spain.

Our purpose is to develop and validate a new iPad-based contrast sensitivity (CS) test for measuring the contrast sensitivity function at near vision (Optopad-CSF). A total of 200 eyes of 100 healthy subjects (ages 17-63) were evaluated in a comparative study between the Optopad-CSF test (near vision) and the CSV-1000E test (distance vision). The agreement between tests was assessed with the index of contrast sensitivity (ICS) and the area under the curve (AUC).
