Radiological hazards to the residents of the Gaza Strip, Palestine and the north of the Sinai Peninsula, Egypt, were determined using the naturally occurring radionuclides (Ra, Th and K) in 69 samples of building materials (demolition debris, plasters, concretes, from recycling plants and raw cements from suppliers), soils and sands collected in the field. The radiological hazard indices and dose rates calculated with the activity concentrations of radionuclides in those materials determined by gamma-ray spectrometry indicate that the values are all within the global limits recommended by the United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation 2000 and European Commission 1999. The results of Spearman's correlation and hierarchical cluster analysis for Pb in the building materials, soils and sands suggest that the samples include Pb from the atmospheric fallout. The medium correlation between Th and K in demolition debris implies that their activity concentrations are characteristic of the building materials and constituents of the demolition debris. Non-natural ratio of U/U was found in the soil and sand samples collected in the Gaza Strip. Furthermore, Cs and Am were detected in some soil, sand and demolition debris samples analyzed in this study. The origins of those anthropogenic radionuclides were considered.

Building anion-derived solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) with enriched LiF is considered the most promising strategy to address inferior safety features and poor cyclability of lithium-metal batteries (LMBs). Herein, we discover that, instead of direct electron transfer from surface polar groups to bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (TFSI) for inducing a LiF-rich SEI, the dipole-induced fluorinated-anion decomposition reaction begins with the adsorption of Li ions and is highly dependent on their mobility on the polar surface. To demonstrate this, a single-layer graphdiyne on MXene (sGDY@MXene) heterostructure has been successfully fabricated and integrated into polypropylene separators.

A novel fluorescence sensing nanoplatform (CDs/AuNCs@ZIF-8) encapsulating carbon dots (CDs) and gold nanoclusters (AuNCs) within a zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) was developed for ratiometric detection of formaldehyde (FA) in the medium of hydroxylamine hydrochloride (NHOH·HCl). The nanoplatform exhibited pink fluorescence due to the aggregation-induced emission (AIE) effect of AuNCs and the internal filtration effect (IFE) between AuNCs and CDs. Upon reaction between NHOH·HCl and FA, a Schiff base formed via aldehyde-diamine condensation, releasing hydrochloric acid.

Amino acids are fundamental building blocks of proteins, playing critical roles in medical diagnostics, environmental monitoring, and biomarker identification. The development of nanoscale electronic sensors capable of single-amino-acid recognition has gained significant attention due to their potential for label-free, real-time detection. In this study, we investigate the electronic transport properties of amino acids in two gold-based nanodevices with distinct architectures: a gold nanojunction and a gold-capacitor system.

New hybrids were synthesised by linking carboranes and siloles, both of which are known as aggregation-induced emission active units. Although most of the newly synthesised systems do not display notable quantum yield either in solution or in the aggregated state, they emit strongly in the solid-state, and a quantum yield of up to 100% can be achieved. The tailorable quantum yield can be attributed to the packing of the molecules in the crystal lattice ruled by the carborane and phenyl moieties according to the SC-XRD data.

Compared with the energetically favorable 5- or 6-membered fluoro-functionalized heterocycles, the construction of medium-sized fluoro-heterocycles is relatively under-researched because of their inherently unfavorable enthalpic and entropic nature. Based on rational design and DFT calculations, a novel photocatalytic difluoromethyl radical-initiated intramolecular 7--trig cyclization was realized, thus affording a sustainable route for the synthesis of challenging fluoro-functionalized medium-sized -heterocycles. Depending on atomic dipole moment corrected Hirshfeld population (ADCH) charge calculations, the chemoselective 6--trig radical cyclizations were further replenished.
