Background: Even if lung cancer is detected at an early stage, surgery may be difficult in patients with severe comorbidities, like interstitial pneumonia (IP). Radiation therapy cannot be performed due to the high risk of acute IP exacerbation. Therefore, an effective alternative, such as photodynamic therapy (PDT), is required. To prove that acute exacerbation is not induced after PDT in peripheral lung cancer, we investigated the effects of PDT on IP rat models.
Methods: Bleomycin (BLM) was administered intratracheally. Seven days after administration, left thoracotomy was performed. Talaporfin sodium was injected, and diode laser irradiation (664 nm, 150mW, 100J/cm) was performed. Seven days after PDT, the whole blood and left lungs were collected. A total of 23 rats, comprising BLM + PDT (n = 4), BLM + non-PDT (n = 10), non-BLM + PDT (n = 2), non-BLM + non-PDT (n = 5), and two rats that died immediately after PDT were observed. Serum levels of Krebs von den Lungen-6, surfactant protein-D, lactate dehydrogenase, and serum C-reactive protein were measured. Fibrosis and macrophage scorings, and the collagen fibers percentage were examined by staining with hematoxylin and eosin, Elastica van Gieson, anti-α smooth muscle antibody, and anti-CD68 antibodies.
Results: There was no remarkable difference in the values of each marker in fibrosis and macrophage scores with or without PDT. In case of death, fibrosis was mild, and PDT was not affected.
Conclusions: In IP rat models, PDT did not induce lung fibrosis or acute exacerbation.

Background: High-temperature environment can cause acute kidney injury affecting renal filtration function. To study the mechanism of renal injury caused by heat stress through activates TLR4/NF-κB/NLRP3 signaling pathway by disrupting the filtration barrier in broiler chickens. The temperature of broilers in the TN group was maintained at 23 ± 1 °C, and the HS group temperature was maintained at 35 ± 1℃ from the age of 21 days, and the high temperature was 10 h per day, and one broiler from each replicate group at the age of 35 and 42 days was selected for blood sampling, respectively.

Isoniazid and rifampicin co-therapy are the main causes of anti-tuberculosis drug-induced liver injury (ATB-DILI) and acute liver failure, seriously threatening human health. However, its pathophysiology is not fully elucidated. Growing evidences have shown that fibroblast growth factors (FGFs) play a critical role in diverse aspects of liver pathophysiology.

Background: Lung cancer is a leading cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide, with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) comprising 85% of cases. Due to the lack of early clinical signs, metastasis often occurs before diagnosis, impacting treatment and prognosis. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a common comorbidity in lung cancer patients, with shared risk factors exacerbating outcomes.

The aim of this retrospective cohort study was to investigate the clinical characteristics and the outcomes of acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD) patients between different sex. We aimed to collect the first hospitalization patients who were diagnosed as AECOPD between 1 January 2019 to 31 December 2021 from the general ward and intensive care unit in the hole hospital, Shanghai the Fifth People's Hospital, Fudan University. Demographic data, initial clinical symptoms, on-admission vital signs, comorbidities, laboratory tests and imaging examination, treatment, and follow-up were compared between the two groups.
