PrEP use has steadily increased since its introduction, yet uptake remains slow among MSM of color in the U.S. South. Findings presented are from a qualitative study conducted in 2016 exploring factors related to remaining HIV negative among Black (n = 99) and Latino (n = 51) MSM in Atlanta, Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Jackson, and Miami. One-hour in-depth interviews were analyzed using a qualitative content analysis approach. MSM perceived PrEP as providing relief from fear and as an insurance policy against HIV infection but were likely to consider themselves at low risk for HIV. Identified factors influencing PrEP use included side effects, medical mistrust, and stigma. Cost and access were not seen as major barriers. Findings suggest MSM of color in the South may view PrEP as too risky for their HIV prevention needs. PrEP providers can address medical mistrust, discuss side effects, and emphasize positive aspects of PrEP use to increase uptake. (150 words).

Sexual abuse is any non-consensual sexual act or behavior using force, with significant concern in "men who have sex with men" (MSM), and younger individuals. The incidence of sexually transmitted infections (STI) is also prevalent in the cases of sexual abuse in this population, showing the need for comprehensive medical and psychological intervention. This study presents a case of a 15-year-old Indonesian MSM adolescent who experienced three forced sexual intercourse with a mid-thirties male friend 6 months before the consultation.

As the textile wastewater is highly saline and has high pH it is important to employ extremophilic microbes to survive in harsh conditions and provide effective bioremediation of textile dyes. This study aims to find a sustainable solution for dye removal by investigating the potential of an indigenously isolated bacterium, Nesterenkonia lacusekhoensis EMLA3 (halo-alkaliphilic) for treatment of an azo dye, methyl orange (MO) and textile effluent. MO dye decolorization studies were conducted using mineral salt media (MSM) by varying incubation time (0-120 h), initial dye concentration (50-350 mg/L), pH (7.

Young men of color who have sex with men are vulnerable to HIV and experience poor PrEP uptake and retention. We conducted a secondary data analysis and calculated adjusted Prevalence Odds Ratios (aPORs) for PrEP retention along with 95% CIs at 90, 180, and 360 days at an organization running safety net clinics in Texas for gay and bisexual men. We found statistically significant association with age, race, in-clinic versus telehealth appointments, and having healthcare insurance.

Racial and sexual orientation discrimination may exacerbate the double epidemic of hypertension (HTN) and HIV that affects men of color who have sex with men (MSM). This was a cross-sectional analysis of African American, Asian American, Native Hawaiian, or Pacific Islander (NHPI) MSM living with HIV (PLWH) cohort in Honolulu and Philadelphia. Racial and sexual orientation discrimination, stress, anxiety, and depression were measured with computer-assisted self-interview questionnaires (CASI).

In the United States, the use of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) has led to a substantial decrease in HIV prevalence and incidence. However, some populations, including young men who have sex with men (YMSM) of color, continue to be disproportionately impacted, highlighting the need for tailored interventions addressing barriers to adequate PrEP access. In collaboration with partner clinics, we recruited 19 PrEP clients and 19 PrEP providers ( = 35) to participate in hour-long in-depth interviews.
