In a wide area among the provinces of Vicenza, Verona, and Padua (Veneto Region, Northern Italy), one of the larger known massive contamination of the environment by per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) occurred since the year 1965. The most important source of human exposure was through aquiferous and contaminated water supplies (the regional authorities distinguished red zone A - aquiferous - and red zone B - water supply) for a total of slightly less than two hundred thousand exposed people. Food contamination and food contribution to total human exposure were assessed by a food monitoring campaign on the years 2016-2017 by the National Health Institute sponsored by Veneto Region. Thanks to the availability of the individual records of the monitoring campaign, we evaluated the spatial distribution of PFAS contamination by food matrix. Generally speaking, PFAS contamination was widespread over the entire red zone (either A or B). Some zones appeared to be higher contaminated consistently with the water plume. Other higher contaminated zones were less consistent and such result raises questions about routes of environmental pollution.

This study introduces a novel methodology for estimating and analysing coastal cliff degradation, using machine learning and remote sensing data. Degradation refers to both natural abrasive processes and damage to coastal reinforcement structures caused by natural events. We utilized orthophotos and LiDAR data in green and near-infrared wavelengths to identify zones impacted by storms and extreme weather events that initiated mass movement processes.

Continental drift triggered the Early Permian aridification of North China.

The boundary between wet and arid climate zones in the Tethys Ocean remains challenging to trace, complicating our understanding of global aridification pattern during the Late Carboniferous to Early Permian transition. The North China Block (NCB), situated in the Tethys Ocean, underwent a transition from humid to arid climate during the Early Permian, providing a rare opportunity to trace this climate boundary across this region. Here, we present paleomagnetic evidence indicating that the NCB underwent rapid northward drift between 290 and 281 million years ago.

A novel biosynthesis approach was used to develop zinc selenite (ZnSeO) catalysts from the plant extracts of Nephrolepis cordifolia (ZnSeO:NC) and Ziziphus jujube (ZnSeO:ZJ) using hydrothermal method. This study investigates the structural, morphological, and optical properties of pure and biosynthesized ZnSeO catalysts. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis confirms the presence of an orthorhombic phase in both catalyst types.
