Multilayered core-shell FeO-SnO-C nanoparticles were prepared via surface treatment and carbonization at atmospheric pressure. FeO-SnO nanoparticles were prepared by the carboxylation of the pivotal particles (FeO) with an anionic surfactant to immobilize SnO nanoparticles. A method was proposed to externally surround hydrophilic carbon with amine-forming materials, polyethyleneimine (PEI), and (3-Aminopropyl) triethoxysilane (APTES). The synthesis strategy was based on the electrostatic bonding of the introduced amine group with the hydroxyl group on the carbon precursor and the carbonization of the coating layer by the catalytic reaction of sulfuric acid.

To reduce the risk of side effects and enhance therapeutic efficiency, drug delivery systems that offer precise control over active ingredient release while minimizing burst effects are considered advantageous. In this study, a novel approach for the controlled release of lamivudine (LV) was explored through the fabrication of polyelectrolyte-coated microparticles. LV was covalently attached to poly(ε-caprolactone) via ring-opening polymerization, resulting in a macromolecular prodrug (LV-PCL) with a hydrolytic release mechanism.

A multilayer core-shell heterostructure with CoNi-LDH as the core and NiS nanosheets as the shell is deposited on MXene-coated carbon nanofibers by electrospinning and electrochemical deposition. This unique structure not only combines highly conductive and hydrophilic one-dimensional carbon nanofibers but also exposes abundant two-dimensional reactive sites and multiple ion diffusion channels to maximize material utilization, enhance electron transfer kinetics, accelerate Faraday reaction, high capacitance and strong stability. The CNNS@MXCF electrode exhibits outstanding electrochemical characteristics, including a capacity of 1441.

Interferons (IFNs) are cytokines involved in the immune response with a synergistic regulatory effect on the immune response. They are therapeutics for various viral and proliferative conditions, with proven safety and efficacy. Their clinical application is challenging due to the molecules' size, degradation, and pharmacokinetics.

Cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) are a heterogeneous cell population within the tumor that have recently come into the spotlight. By extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling and robust cross-talk with cancer cells via different secretions such as cytokines, chemokines, and growth factors, CAFs contribute to cancer progression and poorer prognoses in patients. Novel candidates have been developed to inhibit CAFs; however, due to safety and efficacy issues, none have successfully passed clinical trials.

Ligand-protected gold clusters display a rich structural diversity, featuring remarkable structures such as Au(SR), Au(PPh)Cl, and CuAu(SR) , involving a central core composed of consecutive layers. The respective Au@Au, Au@Au@Au and Cu@Au@Au@Au cores with concentric structural layers enable a variable bonding/antibonding character between the electronic shells ascribed to each layer. Here, we rationalize the bonding within concentric structural layers in order to gain a further understanding of the related bonding patterns in such species.
