The Role of Systemic Health Indicators, Including C-Reactive Protein and eGFR, in Predicting Periodontal Disease: A Longitudinal Study.

Int J Mol Sci

January 2025

Department of Health Informatics, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Debrecen, 4032 Debrecen, Hungary.

C-reactive protein (CRP) and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) are key biomarkers reflecting systemic inflammation and metabolic dysfunction. This study explored systemic and oral health indicators, including CRP and eGFR, as potential factors associated with periodontitis, using a longitudinal clinical dataset comprising 23,742 records from patients identified by ICD-10 codes between 2015 and 2022. Univariate Cox analysis and Gompertz models, selected based on AIC and BIC after evaluating alternative models, were employed to assess the predictive roles of CRP and eGFR in periodontitis incidence, adjusting for oral and systemic health factors.

Oral Health, Anxiety, Depression, and Stress in Pregnancy: A Rapid Review of Associations and Implications for Perinatal Care.

Int J Environ Res Public Health

December 2024

Department of Family Practice, Midwifery Program, Faculty of Medicine, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, BC V6T 1Z3, Canada.

Research demonstrates associations between oral health and specific mental health conditions in the general population, yet these relationships remain understudied during pregnancy, despite pregnancy's profound effects on both oral and psychological well-being. Our rapid review examines current evidence on associations between oral health conditions and psychological states (anxiety, depression, and stress) during pregnancy, aiming to inform and strengthen integrated prenatal care strategies. Following PRISMA-RR guidelines, we conducted a systematic search on OVID Medline, CINAHL, and PsycINFO (January 2000-November 2024) for studies examining relationships between oral health conditions (periodontal disease, dental caries) and psychological status during pregnancy and up to one year postpartum.

Background: To investigate the effect of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) on the incidence of peri-implantitis (PI) and peri-implant mucositis (PIM).

Methods: Radiographic and clinical chart reviews were conducted to measure the probing depth (PD), bleeding on probing, and marginal bone loss (MBL) around the implants to diagnose peri-implant diseases based on the 2017 workshop classification. Values were recorded at the baseline (T0) to the last available chart and radiograph (T1).
