Tryptophan regulates and participates in various physiological systems in the human body, and its excessive intake has harmful effects. Therefore, detecting and monitoring tryptophan in water and distinguishing it from other amino acids are necessary. In addition to their excellent luminescence, coordination polymer-based sensors have good stability and high sensitivity and selectivity for sensing applications. In this work, two luminescent coordination polymers (CPs), [Zn(ttb)Cl] (1) and [Zn(ttb)(OH)(NO)] (2), were obtained through the solvothermal reaction of different Zn(II) salts with a rarely studied multidentate N-donor ligand, 1-(tetrazo-5-yl)-3-(triazo-1-yl) benzene (Httb). Crystallographic investigations revealed that the structure of 1 exhibits a 2D fes net with Cl anions acting as terminal charge balancers, and that of 2 features a 3D ant net with NO anions in a rare monodentate bridging (μ-O-η:η) mode. In terms of stability tests, 2 has better thermal and water stability than 1. Although both show good fluorescence performance, specific tryptophan detection, and excellent anti-interference ability, 2 has higher (111 852.6 M), a lower limit of detection (LOD = 23.6 nM), and a better recovery rate than 1. Cytotoxicity experiments proved that 2 has extremely low toxicity and thus has great potential for detection. Therefore, CP 2 is a suitable candidate for advanced practical applications for the efficient sensing of tryptophan in water. The luminescence of the ligands was also calculated using DFT theory and further discussed through experiments. The quenching mechanism that occurs after tryptophan addition was explored through Hirshfeld surface analysis.

Tryptophan-arginine-lysine-tyrosine (WRKY) transcription factors are essential regulators of drought tolerance in multiple plants. However, whether and how GhWRKY207 modulates cotton response to drought stress is unclear. In this study, we determined that GhWRKY207 expression was high in leaves and induced by drought stress.

Incorporation of environment and vibronic effects in simulations of optical spectra and excited state dynamics is commonly done by combining molecular dynamics with excited state calculations, which allows to estimate the spectral density describing the frequency-dependent system-bath coupling strength. The need for efficient sampling, however, usually leads to the adoption of classical force fields despite well-known inaccuracies due to the mismatch with the excited state method. Here, we present a multiscale strategy that overcomes this limitation by combining EMLE simulations based on electrostatically embedded ML potentials with the QM/MMPol polarizable embedding model to compute the excited states and spectral density of 3-methyl-indole, the chromophoric moiety of tryptophan that mediates a variety of important biological functions, in the gas phase, in water solution, and in the human serum albumin protein.

Olanzapine (OLZ) is widely used in the treatment of schizophrenia, and its metabolic side effects have garnered significant attention in recent years. Despite this, the specific side effects of OLZ and the underlying mechanisms remain inadequately understood. To address this gap, zebrafish (Danio rerio) were exposed to OLZ at concentrations of 35.

Hydrate-based carbon capture and storage (HBCS) is a sustainable and promising approach to combating global warming by utilizing water, which is a ubiquitous resource. Here, we report a comprehensive study of CO hydrate formation in dry water (DW), a water-in-air dispersion confined in silica particles, for improving the kinetics of hydrate growth. Utilizing a combination of a home-built high-pressure reactor, in situ Raman spectroscopy, and powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), we elucidate the crystal structure, growth dynamics, and morphology of CO hydrates formed in DW, with and without the kinetic hydrate promoter, l-tryptophan.
