Signs of virilization, such as clitoromegaly, labio-scrotal fusion, and urogenital sinus may be observed in females with 21-hydroxylase deficiency (21-OHD) and other rare virilizing forms of congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH). This makes sex determination difficult, and multiple reconstructive surgeries in the postnatal period may be required. As 21-OHD is an autosomal recessive disease, the chance of any child being affected is one in four and so only one in eight will be an affected female.

Background Babies born between 37 weeks +0 days and 38 weeks +6 days by scheduled caesarean delivery before the onset of labour are more prone to developing respiratory complications than babies delivered between 39 weeks +0 days and 40 weeks +0 days. Antenatal corticosteroids have been used in preterm births for lung maturity. The advantages of administering antenatal corticosteroids before a scheduled caesarean delivery in the early term remain a subject of debate.

Background: Antenatal steroid therapy for fetal lung maturation is routinely administered to women at risk of preterm delivery. There is strong evidence to demonstrate benefit from antenatal steroids in terms of survival and respiratory disease, notably in infants delivered at or below 32 weeks' gestation. However, dosing remains unoptimized and lung benefits are highly variable.

Background: The use of antenatal corticosteroids beyond 34 weeks of gestation to prevent certain neonatal complications remains a debate. This study sought to determine the effect of the use of antenatal corticosteroids in late preterm delivery on neonatal morbidity.
Methodology: It was a randomized double-blind placebo and active-controlled multi-arm trial.
