Lipopolysaccharides (LPS) are surface glycoconjugates embedded in the external leaflet of the outer membrane (OM) of the Gram-negative bacteria. They consist of three regions: lipid A, core oligosaccharide (OS), and O-specific polysaccharide or O-antigen. Lipid A is the glycolipid endotoxin domain that anchors the LPS molecule to the OM, and therefore, its chemical structure is crucial in the maintenance of membrane integrity in the Gram-negative bacteria. In this paper, we reported the characterization of the lipid A and OS structures from Sq02-Rif, which is a psychrotrophic Gram-negative bacterium isolated from the intestine of . The immunomodulatory activity of both LPS and lipid A was also examined.

Itaconate is an immunomodulatory metabolite that alters mitochondrial metabolism and immune cell function. This organic acid is endogenously synthesized via tricarboxylic acid (TCA) metabolism downstream of TLR signaling. Itaconate-based treatment strategies are being explored to mitigate numerous inflammatory conditions.

Bacterial infections pose a threat to human and animal health, and the formation of biofilm exacerbates the microbial threat. New antimicrobial agents to address this challenge are much needed. In this study, several new amphoteric compounds derived from the natural product coumarin were designed and synthesized by mimicking the structure and function of antimicrobial peptides.

Background And Objectives: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a well-known systemic autoimmune inflammatory disease. This investigation aimed to assess the effects of Sina-curcumin, a novel nano micelle-based curcumin, on immune system responses of RA patients.
Methods: This pilot study is a randomized double blinded, controlled trial.

Background: Patients with transfusion-dependent thalassemia experience iron dysregulation, which affects the immune response. Surface proteins such as FcγRIII (CD16), lipopolysaccharide receptor (CD14), and human leukocyte antigen (HLA-DR) on monocytes are crucial for innate and adaptive responses. Blood monocytes, identified by their CD14 and CD16 expression, show functional diversity during injury or inflammation.
