A new stable human hypernephroma cell line has been characterized by differential staining R-, C- and Ag-I-techniques. The karyotype of the cultivated hypernephroma cells has been designed using the statistical analysis and karyotype reconstruction methods. The specific chromosomal markers of the cell line are described.

Karyotype Diversification and Chromosome Rearrangements in Squamate Reptiles.

Karyotype diversification represents an important, yet poorly understood, driver of evolution. Squamate reptiles are characterized by a high taxonomic diversity which is reflected at the karyotype level in terms of general structure, chromosome number and morphology, and insurgence of differentiated simple or multiple-sex-chromosome systems with either male or female heterogamety. The potential of squamate reptiles as unique model organisms in evolutionary cytogenetics has been recognised in recent years in several studies, which have provided novel insights into the chromosome evolutionary dynamics of different taxonomic groups.

Small genome size and variation in ploidy levels support the naturalization of vascular plants but constrain their invasive spread.

Karyological characteristics are among the traits underpinning the invasion success of vascular plants. Using 11 049 species, we tested the effects of genome size and ploidy levels on plant naturalization (species forming self-sustaining populations where they are not native) and invasion (naturalized species spreading rapidly and having environmental impact). The probability that a species naturalized anywhere in the world decreased with increasing monoploid genome size (DNA content of a single chromosome set).

This paper provides new cytotaxonomic data on the genus Linnaeus, 1753, in Algeria. Populations of seven taxa, Linnaeus, 1753, Durieu, 1847, Ker Gawler, 1806, (Haworth) Spach, 1846, sensu lato Linnaeus, 1753, including (Haworth) Steudel, 1841, and De Candolle, 1815, were karyologically investigated through chromosome counting and karyotype parameters. and have the same number of chromosomes 2 = 2 = 20 with different karyotype formulas.

Article Synopsis
  • Water lettuce (L.) is a freshwater plant in the Araceae family, used for environmental cleanup and biomass production; its genetic relationships within the family have not been well-defined.
  • Researchers studied the locations and organization of 35S and 5S ribosomal DNA (rDNA) in water lettuce, discovering that each rDNA type is located on different pairs of its 28 chromosomes through advanced molecular techniques.
  • The study revealed structural characteristics of 35S rDNA and significant variability in the internal and non-transcribed spacer regions, contributing to a better understanding of phylogenetic relationships in Araceae.

Variation in genome size and in chromosome number can be linked to genetic, morphological, and ecological characteristics, and thus be taxonomically significant. We screened the relative genome size (RGS) and counted the number of mitotic chromosomes in the African agroforestry tree , a widely distributed savannah species that shows conspicuous morphological clinal variation and strong genetic structure, and tested for linkage of RGS variation to geography, leaf morphology, and population genetic variation. An improved protocol for the preparation of chromosomes was developed.
