Herein, we synthesized a novel injectable porous magnetic hydrogel (MHG) at room temperature using carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCS), polydopamine (PDA), sodium alginate (SA), polyethyleneimine (PEI) and copper ferrite (CuFeO) as building blocks. The CMCS and SA as monomers provided good film-forming and anti-fouling properties for MHG. The PDA-coated CuFeO as a cross-linking agent improved the homogeneity, adsorption and electrocatalytic performance of MHG, but also generated a macroporous hydrogel structure which was beneficial for sensing applications.

Chemometrics-powered spectroscopic techniques for the measurement of food-derived phenolics and vitamins in foods: A review.

Food Chem

January 2025

College of Ocean Food and Biological Engineering, Jimei University, Xiamen 361021, PR China; School of Food and Biological Engineering, Jiangsu University, Zhenjiang 212013, PR China. Electronic address:

Foods are rich in various bioactive compounds, like phenolics, and vitamins, which play important physiological roles in the human body. The analysis of phenolics and vitamins in plant and animal-based foods is a topic of growing interest. Compared with conventional methods, the chemometrics-powered infrared, Fourier transform-near infrared and mid-infrared, ultraviolet-visible, fluorescence, and Raman spectroscopy offer a reliable, low-cost, and nondestructive means to determine phenolics and vitamins.

Enhanced chemiluminescence of luminol via InS/MXene composite as a novel Co-reactant accelerator for UV-filter Benzophenone-3 determination.

Talanta

January 2025

Shenzhen Key Laboratory of Organic Pollution Prevention and Control, School of Biomedical Engineering, Harbin Institute of Technology Shenzhen, Shenzhen, 518055, China. Electronic address:

In this study, a novel In₂S₃/MXene composite was developed as a co-reactant accelerator to enhance the chemiluminescence (CL) performance of the classical luminol-H₂O₂ system. The In₂S₃ and MXene heterojunction catalyzed the CL reaction through synergistic effect, facilitating the generation of reactive oxygen species and increasing CL intensities. This enhanced system was applied for the first time to detect an ultraviolet (UV) filter-benzophenone-3 (BP-3) by leveraging its light absorption property.

Neglecting proper skin care and repeated exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation can have serious consequences, including skin burns, photoaging and even the development of skin cancer. UV radiation-induced damage is mediated by highly unstable and reactive molecules, named reactive oxygen species (ROS). To counteract ROS, the skin has an endogenous antioxidant system.
