Colloidal metal nanocrystals with uniform sizes, shapes, compositions, and architectures are ideal building blocks for constructing heterogeneous catalysts with well-defined characteristics toward the investigation of accurate structure-property relationships and better understanding of catalytic mechanism. However, their applications in high-temperature heterogeneous catalysis are often restricted by the difficulty in maintaining the high metal dispersity and easy accessibility to active sites under harsh operating conditions. Here, a partial-oxide-coating strategy is proposed to stabilize metal nanocrystals against sintering and meanwhile enable an effective exposure of active sites. As a proof-of-concept, controlled partial silica coating of colloidally prepared Pd Ni nanocrystals with the size of 8 nm is demonstrated. This partially coated catalyst exhibits excellent activity, selectivity, and stability, outperforming its counterparts with fully coated and supported structures, in reverse water gas shift (RWGS) catalysis particularly at high operating temperatures. This study opens a new avenue for the exploration of colloidal metal nanocrystals in high-temperature heterogeneous catalysis.

Self-organization under out-of-equilibrium conditions is ubiquitous in natural systems for the generation of hierarchical solid-state patterns of complex structures with intricate properties. Efforts in applying this strategy to synthetic materials that mimic biological function have resulted in remarkable demonstrations of programmable self-healing and adaptive materials. However, the extension of these efforts to multifunctional stimuli-responsive solid-state materials across defined spatial distributions remains an unrealized technological opportunity.

Despite the potential of sonodynamic therapy (SDT) in treating malignant tumors, the lack of effective sonosensitizers has limited its clinical implementation. In this study, we explored the relationship between the heteroatom doping concentration in metal-organic frameworks and interface formation after pyrolysis by regulating the addition of manganese sources and successfully derived Z-scheme heterojunctions MnO/(A/R)TiO (MTO) in situ from MIL-125-NH (Ti/Mn). The electron transfer pathway introduced by interfacial contact promoted carrier separation and greatly preserved the effective redox components, significantly influencing the performance of reactive oxygen species generation.

Developing chiral plasmonic nanostructures represents a significant scientific challenge due to their multidisciplinary potential. Observations have revealed that the dichroic behavior of metal plasmons changes when chiral molecules are present in the system, offering promising applications in various fields such as nano-optics, asymmetric catalysis, polarization-sensitive photochemistry and molecular detection. In this study, we explored the synthesis of plasmonic gold nanoparticles and the role of cysteine in their chiroplasmonic properties.

A composite nanomaterial of Prussian blue@gold nanoparticles (PB@Au) with catalytic and photothermal properties was proposed, which combined with anti-matrix interference aptamers to achieve robust specificity and sensitivity in the detection of Salmonella typhimurium (S. typhimurium). The detection probe, PB@Au-Aptamer (PB@Au-Apt), was designed to exhibit high specificity for the target and catalyze the signal generation to produce a color change, thereby enabling rapid detection.

In this paper, microporous Zn-based zeolitic imidazolate framework with the sodalite cage structure (SOD-ZIF-8) was synthesized by the solvothermal method. Powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and N2 adsorption were employed to characterize the synthesized material. An ultra-sensitive electrochemical sensor based on highly dispersed bimetallic Ni-Pt nanoparticles immobilized on zeolitic metal-organic framework ZIF-8 for dopamine quantification is introduced for the first time.
