Article Synopsis
  • The JBJS symposium focused on the importance of including sex and gender in orthopaedic research to enhance study methods and patient outcomes, addressing current shortcomings in reporting.
  • Barriers to proper reporting stem from cultural resistance, inadequate education on terminology and study design, insufficient funding for larger studies, and the need for better understanding of how biological and social factors like gender and race interact in health research.
  • To overcome these challenges, the development of best-practice statistical methods and ongoing education for all stakeholders in research is crucial, with existing guidelines like the SAGER providing a framework for improvement and support from academic institutions and funders being essential for meaningful progress.

Novel NIR fluorescent probe based on BODIPY for diagnosis and treatment evaluation of alcoholic liver disease via visualizing HClO fluctuation.

Spectrochim Acta A Mol Biomol Spectrosc

March 2025

Key Laboratory for Special Functional Materials of Ministry of Education, School of Nanoscience and Materials Engineering, Henan University, Kaifeng 475004, PR China. Electronic address:

Alcoholic liver disease (ALD) is gradually becoming common due to the increasing number of drinkers worldwide, which is a serious threat to human physical and mental health. In the process of ALD, it is often accompanied by the occurrence of inflammation, which induce high expression of reactive oxygen species including HClO. In this work, we successfully fabricated a NIR fluorescent probe BDP-ENE-Fur-HClO for real-time imaging alcoholic liver disease via tracing HClO.

Carbohydrate (CHO) gels are a staple among endurance athletes. When ingested during competition, CHO gels can improve endurance performance by acting as an external energy substrate, sparing endogenous glycogen, mitigating the risk of hypoglycemia, and engaging the central nervous system via receptors in the mouth and gastrointestinal tract. However, published studies and a growing number of anecdotal reports have raised concerns about possible energy and macronutrient deficiencies in several products.
