Background: The aim of the present study was to establish a predictive model to predict the peritoneal cancer index (PCI) preoperatively in patients with pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP).

Methods: A total of 372 PMP patients were consecutively included from a prospective follow-up database between 1 June 2013 and 1 June 2023. Nine potential variables, namely, gender, age, Barthel Index (BAI), hemoglobin (Hb), albumin (Alb), D-dimer, carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), carbohydrate antigen 125 (CA 125), and CA 19-9, were estimated using multiple linear regression (MLR) analysis with a stepwise selection procedure.

Background: Dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) combined with serum carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) and carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA19-9) levels to evaluate the efficacy of colorectal cancer liver metastasis (CRCLM) treatment is still rare.

Purpose: To investigate the predictive value of DCE-MRI combined with serum CEA and CA 19-9 concerning the efficacy of comprehensive treatment for CRCLM.

Materials And Methods: A total of 120 patients with CRC were retrospectively recruited using convenience sampling between May 2019 and March 2024.

Prognostic impact and reasons for variability by tumor location in gastric cancer.

World J Gastroenterol

November 2024

Zhejiang Cancer Hospital, Hangzhou Institute of Medicine, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Hangzhou 310022, Zhejiang Province, China.

Background: Gastric cancer (GC) is a highly prevalent gastrointestinal tract tumor. Several trials have demonstrated that the location of GC can affect patient prognosis. However, the factors determining tumor location remain unclear.

Background: Lactylation plays an essential role in pancreatic cancer, but the precise role of lactylated histone in the diagnosis and prognosis of pancreatic cancer remains to be further clarified.

Methods: Twenty-one patients diagnosed with pancreatic cancer were enrolled in this study, and the clinicopathologic characteristics were collected. Lactylation levels of total proteins and histone H3 Lysine-18 (H3K18) of tissues were determined by western blotting and laboratory indicators including serum levels of lactate, Cancer Antigen 19-9 (CA19-9), and Carcinoembryogenic Antigen (CEA) were obtained.

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates the connection between oxidative stress and the survival prognosis of elderly patients with esophageal squamous cancer (ESCC), utilizing machine learning models due to a lack of existing research in this area.
  • The researchers included elderly ESCC patients who underwent surgery from 2013 to 2020 and analyzed data through Cox regression, ultimately developing an oxidative stress score (OSS) to predict 3-year overall survival rates.
  • Among the 485 patients analyzed, key factors influencing survival were identified, and the random forest machine-learning model showed the best predictive performance for survival outcomes in the training cohort.
