Most species of migrating birds use a combination of innate vector-based orientation programs and social information to facilitate accurate navigation during their life. A number of various interspecies hybridisations have been reported in birds. The traits of parents are expressed in hybrids in typical ways which are either intermediate, combined or heterotic.

Coinfection of a host by more than 1 parasite is more common than single infection in wild environments and can have differing impacts, although coinfections have relatively rarely been quantified. Host immune responses to coinfection can contribute to infection costs but are often harder to predict than those associated with single infection, due to the influence of within-host parasite–parasite interactions on infection virulence. To first quantify coinfection in a common bird species, and then to test for immune-related impacts of coinfection, we investigated the prevalence and immune response to avian haemosporidian (genera: , and ) coinfection in wild blackbirds.

Background: Physical activity during pregnancy is a positive behavior for improving pregnancy outcomes, yet the relationship between physical activity during pregnancy and labor is still debated.
Objective: This study aimed to test our hypothesis that a higher level of physical activity during pregnancy is associated with a shorter labor duration.
Study Design: This was a prospective cohort study of pregnant women with singleton pregnancies and no contraindications to physical activity during pregnancy.

Play in humans and other animals is widespread and intuitive to recognise. Creative, unstructured play is difficult to quantify, but games direct play towards a specific goal and have defined rules, mechanics and rewards. To date, games have been under-utilised in human and animal behavioural neuroscience.

Light interacts with gas bubbles in various ways, potentially leading to photon losses in gas-liquid photochemical applications. Given that light is a valuable 'reagent', understanding these losses is crucial for optimizing reactor efficiency. In this study, we address the challenge of quantifying these interactions by implementing a method that separately determines the photon flux and utilizes actinometric experiments to determine the effective optical path length, a key descriptor of photon absorption.
