Loss-in-weight feeders are an integral part of most continuous manufacturing processes, ensuring a constant mass flow. The feeders cause a significant degree of back-mixing in such lines. Understanding back-mixing is essential for the treatment of disturbances. However, feeders refilled semi-continuously contradict the common theory assuming steady-state. This study aims at understanding dynamic back-mixing and related phenomena. Low filling levels of a feeder are investigated using a fluorescent tracer. These investigations prove an impact of the addition of material probably caused by a non-uniform draw-in of the screws and dead material in the hopper. In turn, the dead material accounts for up to 50 % of the material in the hopper. Possible evidence of dead zones at higher filling levels and in feeders from literature are discussed additionally. Steady-state models from literature are extended to represent the observations and back-mixing at all filling levels. This extension reduces the root-mean-squared deviation of the model from the experimental data by 41%. The model predicts different responses to similar disturbances depending on the filling. This state-dependent back-mixing and the observed dead zones are challenging for diverting non-conforming material and material traceability. Therefore, these phenomena should be considered in selecting and operating feeders.

Background: Loneliness and depression among older adults are linked to a higher likelihood of chronic diseases, deterioration of physical function, and compromised quality of life. LGBTQ older adults are known to experience social isolation and mental distress at higher rates than their heterosexual counterparts, and those with cognitive impairment may be particularly susceptible to loneliness and depression. However, there is limited knowledge regarding the risk and protective factors for loneliness and depression among LGBTQ older adults living with cognitive impairment.

Background: Patients with Alzheimer's disease due to the peculiarities of this disease do not report constipation.
Method: In a study of 11 women with Alzheimer's disease, aged 70-75 years, we found that all of them had a tendency towards constipation. We divided the patients into two groups: a control group of 6 women who received help when they complained of constipation symptoms and an experimental group of 5 female patients who were routinely assessed by caregivers on their fecal status using the Bristol Scale.

Predicting the biological behavior and time to recurrence (TTR) of high-grade diffuse gliomas (HGG) after maximum safe neurosurgical resection and combined radiation and chemotherapy plays a pivotal role in planning clinical follow-up, selecting potentially necessary second-line treatment and improving the quality of life for patients diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. The current standard-of-care (SoC) for HGG includes follow-up neuroradiological imaging to detect recurrence as early as possible and relies on several clinical, neuropathological, and radiological prognostic factors, which have limited accuracy in predicting TTR. In this study, using an in-silico analysis, we aim to improve predictive power for TTR by considering the role of (i) prognostically relevant information available through diagnostics used in the current SoC, (ii) advanced image-based information not currently part of the standard diagnostic workup, such as tumor-normal tissue interface (edge) features and quantitative data specific to biopsy positions within the tumor, and (iii) information on tumor-associated macrophages.
