Article Synopsis
  • Nonepisodic angioedema with eosinophilia (NEAE) is identified by localized swelling in the limbs and an increase in eosinophils in the blood.
  • A rare case is reported where a young woman developed NEAE during an acute B19 virus infection, experiencing itching, joint pain, and swelling in her extremities.
  • The symptoms improved with a short course of prednisolone, and she has been symptom-free for over two years, suggesting a connection between NEAE and B19 infection.

Angioedema with eosinophilia (AE) is a rare disease of unknown etiology characterized by episodic (EAE) or nonepisodic AE (NEAE). Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) mRNA-based vaccines function as immunogens and intrinsic adjuvants and have been shown to be safe in large-scale trials. However, the long-term adverse reactions, especially those related to eosinophilic complications, have not been fully clarified.
